The premise of King Arts Games’ real-time strategy title Iron Harvest is pretty interesting: an alternate-history version of 1920s Europe where conflicts are fought with giant dieselpunk mechs. Naturally, this concept leans heavily on real-world history, and soon it will lean ever harder, because the game’s first DLC will basically let players experience a mech-filled version of the Russian Revolution.

Roughly a hundred years after the real uprising brought an end to Russia’s monarchy, revolution will come to Iron Harvest’s “1920+” setting and the Rusviet faction with a new add-on that will launch on December 17. The Rusviet Revolution DLC will add a new storyline spread across four new single player and co-op missions, which will shed light on “the mysterious Rasputin.” The DLC will be available for free for Kickstarter backers and owners of the game’s deluxe edition. Everyone else will have to pay $4.

While they wait for the revolution to begin, players can dive into other brand new content. This week marks the start of Iron Harvest’s second season, and King Arts has celebrated with the release of a new mode called Drop Zone. Here, players compete to collect Victory Point stockpiles that are constantly air-dropped across the map. As they scramble to collect the required number of Points first, players have to balance protecting dropped stockpiles and securing the locations of future air-drops.

Lastly, King Arts is hosting a free demo weekend for the game, offering new players the chance to try out a few missions and skirmish maps for a limited time. Since most reviews have deemed Iron Harvest a solid RTS, now’s a good time for fans of the genre to give it a shot if they’ve been sleeping on it.

Iron Harvest is available for PC.
