Fallout 76 has managed to pick itself off the ground despite the game’s rough first few months on the market. Two years later, the game is alive and seeing new updates fairly frequently, including Fallout 76’s Steel Dawn update.
For those who haven’t been keeping a close eye on Fallout 76, the Steel Dawn update was initially set to roll out to all available platforms on December 1. However, the update was accidentally rolled out early on Xbox One, so Bethesda decided to roll out Fallout 76’s Steel Dawn update early on all platforms instead.
The Steel Dawn update for Fallout 76 was announced months ago, with tons of welcome new additions coming to the game. One of the biggest selling points of the Steel Dawn update are the underground bases that players can build and customize. Fans have been waiting patiently for the Steel Dawn update for months, but it seems due to an error on Bethesda’s part the update went out an entire week early on Xbox One. So, instead of rolling back the update on Xbox One, Bethesda has instead decided to just push Steel Dawn’s release date to today across all platforms.
The update comes by way of the Bethesda Support Twitter account, which noted that the update rolled out at 4 PM ET across all platforms. Players should be able to update their Fallout 76 versions to jump right into the Steel Dawn update ahead of the December release date. Aside from underground bases, players can expect the start of a brand new questline involving Fallout’s infamous Brotherhood of Steel faction. Players can find an NPC called Paladin Leila Rahmani along with her troop to initiate the quest and decide whether they will side with or against the other factions in the game.
Bethesda released a teaser trailer for Steel Dawn titled “Recruitment” that gives a brief idea of what players can expect from the start of the Brotherhood of Steel questline. Along with the new story questline, players can expect tons of new locations and gear to discover across the wastes. It looks like the Steel Dawn update is just the first step in a larger storyline meant to flesh out the world of Fallout 76. Hopefully, this means that Fallout 76 fans have plenty more to look forward to in Fallout 76’s future.

The experience was riddled with bugs, connectivity issues, and a frustrating lack of engaging content. Its initial release was let with a ton of vocal disappointment from fans, though Bethesda’s long time game designer, director, and executive producer Todd Howard says Fallout 76's backlash actually ended being a positive experience for the studio. Now, two years after the initial backlash and the game is flourishing, with a growing player base and new content updates like Steel Dawn.
