Much like with other games in the series, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is no stranger to promotions. As was the case in previous years, one of the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War promos is directly tied to Mountain Dew and Doritos, but this time, there is another layer to the campaign.

So far, the current Dew and Doritos promotion for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has worked like normal. Players can purchase specially marked packages of either product and receive double XP codes to use within Black Ops Cold War. While the codes vary in length, the promotion has been the same as normal — until now.

While Doritos has also included a PS5 giveaway in this year's promotion, there is another aspect to the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War deal as well. By directly messaging the official Mountain Dew Twitter account with #DoritosDewDrop, Mountain Dew will reply back with a code to redeem in-game items. Rather than more double XP, however, players can unlock a Doritos weapon charm and Mountain Dew emblem by sending a message to the account.

Thanks to these items, the latest Mountain Dew and Doritos Call of Duty promotion now has shades of the Black Ops Cold War Totino’s program. With that system, players could receive in-game items beyond XP as well, giving players a bit more variety in the rewards they get for purchasing one of the food packages. It seems like Mountain Dew and Doritos have followed suit, with the brands providing in-game rewards beyond XP codes for the first time since Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

The Doritos chip is quite the interesting weapon charm, and for huge fans of the snack food, sending a private message to the Mountain Dew Twitter account may be worthwhile. Like the Nuketown cosmetic pack, the Doritos charm leaked alongside other Black Ops Cold War's season 1 cosmetics a few days back. With its inclusion, Treyarch has already shown a willingness to go a bit goofier than Infinity Ward with some of its customization options. With this only being “the first of three in-game item drops” as well, more Doritos and Dew cameos are on the way.

Love it or hate it, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans can now share their love for the cheesy chip in multiplayer and Zombies alike. Before long, a Call of Duty weapon with a Dorito dangling from its body may be shareable on social media due to an Activision patent, making this charm even more ridiculous.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
