Best M4A1 loadout and class setup in Warzone - plus attachment combos and perks

The best and most reliable M4A1 loadout in Warzone.

Are you here to figure out the best M4A1 loadout? Good. The M4A1 is something of a Warzone classic. With the mode’s release it quickly became one of the top guns in the meta, and despite the changes that have come into the mode you’ll still find a whole lot of enjoyment with old reliable here. If it’s been a while since picking up this gun I’d highly recommend giving it a go, particularly with our best M4A1 loadouts for Warzone Pacific.

Best M4A1 loadout in Warzone

I love the M4A1 as a go-to ranged powerhouse. You can get attachments out to massively beef up its range and recoil stability, but it’s also versatile enough to build as an SMG hybrid with the right kit. Honestly, the M4A1 is slept on and I’ll be doing my part to bring it back into the meta.

Best mid- to long-range M4A1 loadout in Warzone

This is the safest loadout to go with for the M4A1. Combining your best possible range and all the recoil reduction available, this M4 can absolutely beam down foes with ease. Pair it with an SMG and watch sparks fly.

  • Muzzle: Monolithic Suppressor (Level 58)
  • Barrel: Stock M16 Grenadier (Level 36)
  • Optic: VLK 3.0x Optic (Level 33)
  • Underbarrel: Ranger Foregrip (Level 61)
  • Ammunition: 60 Round Mags (Level 39)
The M4A1 with a monolithic suppressor, Stock M16 grenadier, VLK 3.0x optic, ranger foregrip, and 60 round mags attached.

It should be mentioned that with this loadout, you’re sacrificing mobility for accuracy in a big way. This thing isn’t a run-and-gun weapon, but it’ll absolutely shred at long range with a high bullet velocity and consistent damage. The Monolithic Suppressor is the most important aspect of this, as it’ll beef up your range and keep you off the map so enemies can’t see you. Combine it with the Stock M16 Grenadier and you’ve got a nice heavy barrel to reduce your recoil enormously.

Optic-wise, the VLK 3.0x still offers a brilliant, clean sight with a nice level of zoom to help you track moving targets.

The Ranger Foregrip is here as well to help reduce recoil even further, and will also be the final nail in your coffin for close range damage. Don’t worry though, your other weapon can deal with that.

Finally, the 60 Round Mags are what you’re after. The more bullets the better, and whilst the 50 Round Mags don’t hurt your ADS speed as much, you’ll want to be taking fights with this M4 at ranges where that doesn’t matter.

Take this build for a spin! You might just find out you prefer it to your trusty Grau 5.56.

Secondary weapon

Long-range AR builds like this always go well with an SMG. The new CX-9 and Modern Warfare MP5 are both awesome right now, as is the MAC-10. For other suggestions, check our guide to the best SMGs in Warzone.

Best close-range M4A1 loadout in Warzone

If you’d prefer to use the M4 as a support weapon for a sniper, engaging at mid and close ranges, this snappier M4A1 build will probably serve you slightly better:

  • Muzzle: Monolithic Suppressor (Level 58)
  • Laser: Tac Laser (Level 54)
  • Stock: FORGE TAC CQS (Level 64)
  • Ammunition: 50 Round Mags (Level 24)
  • Rear Grip: Stippled Grip Tape (Level 60)
The M4A1 with a monolithic suppressor, tac laser, forge tac cqs, 50 round mags, and stippled grip tape attached.

You’ll still need a silencer, because the enemy pinpointing your location is an absolute no no in Warzone. Instead of the rest of the loadout though, you’re equipping yourself for a more close-range battle style. You have no barrel attachment, so don’t expect your range or recoil properties to be nearly as good, but on the bright side this gun will feel much nicer to wield.

The Tac Laser, FORGE TAC CQS, and Stippled Grip Tape are all here to boost your aim-down-sights speed, helping you snap onto targets you’ve tagged with your HDR or Kar98k and finish them off. As well as this, I’ve put a 50 Round Mag on here to help ADS speed even more, but if you don’t feel like that’s enough then feel free to bump the ammo up at a slight mobility cost.

Secondary weapon

This build is fairly well suited as a sniper support, so you’ll want a Sniper Rifle. The Kar98k and Swiss K31 are both fantastic at the moment, and the ZRG remains king of maximum range. If you want something more off-meta, try our guide to the best Sniper Rifles in Warzone.

Best M4A1 loadout with Perks and Equipment

Picking your Perks and Equipment can be a difference-maker in Warzone. Here’s what I’d choose with the M4A1:

  • Perk 1: EOD
  • Perk 2: Overkill/Ghost
  • Perk 3: Amped
  • Lethal: Semtex
  • Tactical: Stun Grenade

You can’t go wrong with EOD. It’s brilliant for mitigating damage from enemies lobbing Semtex of Thermite at you, and could just give you that extra sliver of health you need to win a gunfight. Overkill should be used until you have your ideal secondary weapon, and after that switch to a class with Ghost to stay off the radar. If you’re a higher-skill player, Restock is a solid shout too, but only go for that one if you plan on going for big high kill games. Finally, Amped lets you switch between weapons super speedy, letting you either get your SMG out in a hurry or quickly follow up with your M4 after a sweet snipe.

Equipment often boils down to what you personally enjoy using, but for late-game engagements, I’ve found myself using Semtex a surprising amount. Of course, C4 is better when your enemies are trundling around in vehicles, but against human players in cover, those sticky boys really pack a punch. Stun Grenades are another option that works an absolute treat in Warzone, as it stops enemies from being able to run away as fast, letting you just slide in and shoot them down.

How to unlock the M4 in Warzone

This gun has been about for quite some time, so you probably already have it unlocked. It’s available by default, so just head to your Create-A-Class menu and select it from the ‘assault rifle’ category.
