Grounded launched this year in early access to strong success. One million players enjoyed Grounded in the first 48 hours of its launch, and now that number has climbed up to five million total, an impressive and exciting milestone.

According to a new update from developer Obsidian, Grounded's community has extended beyond five million players. This is thrilling news for both the developer and Xbox Game Studios, as Microsoft owns Obsidian thanks to the purchase of the developer two years ago. Because of this, Grounded is free with an Xbox Game Pass subscription, which certainly helps in bringing more players to the game.

Grounded just received its biggest update yet, which includes the addition of an underwater Koi Pond world. In releasing the information about the update, Xbox and Obsidian also revealed the milestone in player count. It's likely that that number will rise as well, especially with a high-profile and interesting update.

Grounded is a very intriguing game for Obsidian. The developer is known for deep RPGs like Fall Out: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II, and last year's The Outer Worlds. Grounded is a very different game, as it is a survival game that takes place in a 'Honey I Shrunk the Kids'-like backyard, with players being small enough that bugs and animals are deadly. So far the game has caught on. Obsidian has a little hit on its hands, and with Avowed on the way as well, fans can look forward to a wide variety of titles from the developer.

Grounded is available now on PC and Xbox One, and will release on Xbox Series X later.
