The Norse realms are a dangerous place, even for a mighty God of War. Kratos, the son of Zeus, has already learned this. He discovered the perils the hard way, as he and his son journeyed across Midgard and other realms. There are many gods within the nine realms, some of which may prove to be a worthy adversary for the father-son duo.

However, Ragnarok is coming, and it is time for the mighty god to hunt down more deities. So, which of the mighty Norse gods deserve to confront the Greek God of War? And who should hide and await the series of events that spelled disaster for the Norse gods?

10 Would - Thor

Thor's hammer (Mjolnir)

The god of thunder is almost a dead cert to appear in Ragnarok. Especially since the famous deity dropped by the father and son's house at the end of God of War. Kratos and Atreus bumped into Thor's sons on their journey, Magni and Modi. They ultimately killed the pair of them.

Furthermore, Kratos killed Baldr, another son of Odin. Thus the Greek god and his son struck down three members of Thor's family. The world loves Thor, the thunder god is hugely popular in the media and would make for an interesting opponent for Kratos. Perhaps the son of Zeus will meet his match in the most-known son of Odin.

9 Wouldn't - Fenrir

Fenrir in Smite

Now then, Fenrir is a tough one. Honestly, an argument could be made that the godly beast is one that would be great in God of War Ragnarok. However, there is one little problem will the big bad wolf...no one likes it when the dog dies! God, it's bad enough to know a canine will meet its end, it's a whole other thing to be the one causes it.

Fenrir would be a worthy adversary for Kratos. Unlike others on this list, he is here for the whole man's best friend thing. Rather than the dull, annoying, what even is the point of him thing.

8 Would - Hel

Hel in Smite

To rule the underworld, Hel is both a terrifying and powerful goddess. Surely, a god of her stature would make a worthy foe for Kratos. In God of War, the father and son duo were forced to journey through Helheim, the land of the dead, home to Hel. Sure, she didn't appear in Kratos' first journey among the Norse lands, but that doesn't mean the Goddess of death can't make an appearance.

Hel would have the potential to be a unique fight, given she is in charge of the dead. Maybe she could use someone of significance against the Greek god, someone that he knew.

7 Wouldn't - Freyr

Freyr's temple in God of War

The god of fertility, Freyr is, in fact, the twin brother of Freya, which makes him Baldr's uncle. While they could be merit to some reasons he should appear in God of War, the game would do just fine without him.

Firstly, one twin is enough, no need to add Freyr to the picture. Quite frankly, it would be more interesting to see how Freya plans to get even, without the aid of her brother. Furthermore, when looking at other gods, some of which did not make this list, it is clear that the god of fertility will pose little to no threat to the father-son duo.

6 Would - Tyr

Tyr in Smite

Given that Tyr is the Norse God of War and is considered to be the bravest Norse deity, his appearance in God of War Ragnarok would be fitting. A fight for the ages, a war, between two mighty gods that are renowned for their prowess in battle.

Tyr is referenced in God of War, so to see him make an appearance in the highly anticipated sequel would be great. Also, it is Ragnarok, a time to end some of the gods of Norse mythology, so surely one of the most powerful gods would play a part in that.

5 Wouldn't - Ymir

Ymir's story in God of War

Giants make for a great enemy, that is for sure. So, logically, Ymir, The Ancestor of Giants would make for an excellent choice to be in God of War right? Wrong, but not because he is undeserving per se. The reason Ymir should avoid an appearance in Ragnarok is that giants seemed to be added in every game these days. Especially a title that involves a form of mythology. Kratos could have a great battle with Ymir, and perhaps that can happen further down the line. However, for now, the Greek God of War could have some unique encounters with other powerful deities.

Granted Ymir may not be entirely classed as a god, but he does serve as an important figure in Norse mythology.

4 Would - Ullr

Ullr in Smite

The God of Glory, Ullr would make for an exceptional addition in God of War Ragnarok. Moreover, given he is equipped with a bow and axes. Thanks to his arsenal, he would pose a double threat for Kratos and Atreus. While the former uses his might, and the latter is swift from a distance, Ullr can have both covered on his own. Therefore, the God of Glory poses quite the challenge to Kratos.

As a hunter, Ullr moves swiftly; he is as deadly as he is quiet. Could he possibly show up in Ragnarok? If he does, there is no doubt it will be in a snowy forest, which would make for a gorgeous setting for what could be an incredible fight.

3 Wouldn't - Bragi

Bragi playing the harp with Idunn

There is nothing wrong with poetry. Some may love it; others may hate it. However, it absolutely has no place in a God of War game. Sorry, Bragi, it's nothing personal, but as the Norse god of poetry, it may be time to run and hide at least until Kratos has passed through.

Granted, watching a god attempt to beat Kratos through the use of words would be amusing, but that would soon turn to boredom. In all honesty, the son of Zeus is not likely to respond well to intellectual mumbo jumbo. Kratos talks with his fists, not his wits.

2 Would - Heimdallr

Heimdallr in Smite

Now then, the reason it would be nice to see Heimdallr is that he is the guardian of the bifrost. In other words, he guards the rainbow bridge that connects Asgard to Midgard. If the mighty guardian were to appear in God of War Ragnarok, there would be a good chance that Kratos would enter Asgard, the city of gods.

Not only that, but Heimdallr would indeed prove to be a worthy foe for Kratos. The guardian is strong and powerful. Honestly, he would have to be to have any hope of keeping the son of Zeus away from Asgard.

1 Wouldn't - Hermóðr

Norse god Hermoor

Okay, Kratos must have some serious issues when it comes to the messenger of the gods. Hermes proved to be a highly annoying encounter in God of War 3. Therefore, it would be nice to avoid the Norse variant, Hermóðr.

Going on another wild goose chase is not something Kratos, or Atreus, would have time for. Especially not with the mighty god of thunder just waiting to ruin their day. Not to mention, there are many gods within Norse mythology, most of which are more deserving of being graced with the presence of Kratos. Rather than a glorified carrier pigeon.
