For those that feel like they get sucked into TV sometimes, Landflix Odyssey is a 2D action-platformer that takes this thought quite literally, transporting the player through a variety of TV shows.

Developed and published by Italy-based Fantastico Studio, the indie game has players taking on the role of Larry. Larry is a lazy binge-watcher who finds himself trapped inside a definitely-not-Netflix streaming service, called 'Landflix.' In order to return home, Larry will have to recover the five batteries scattered throughout the streaming platform's shows.

The five levels, or shows, are spoofs of actual popular TV shows. The names are all, without a doubt, clever approximations of the real ones. The five shows Larry will find himself platforming through are:

  • Peculiar Stuff
  • Elder Thrones
  • Blindevil
  • Going Mad
  • The Standing Zombie

The game's release on Steam next week comes following a successful Kickstarter campaign. Although the game has been announced for current and next-gen Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles, a release date is currently unavailable. Fantastico Studio has stated that a console release is "coming soon," so fans of retro or Metroidvania-style games will surely want to keep an eye out.

The game's premise coupled with the retro art style seems to make it quite unique. The varied gameplay that Landflix Odyssey promises to have should undoubtedly make the title quite the innovative indie platformer. Currently, there is a free demo available on the game's Kickstarter page.

Landflix Odyssey looks to be another charming, yet challenging take on the genre. However, the streaming service-inspired game isn't the only new action-platformer making waves.

Landflix Odyssey releases November 13 on Steam, with a console release TBA.
