As the review embargos lift on the upcoming next-generation hardware, a lot of new information is spreading across the internet and gamers are eager to learn more. One of the bigger areas of focus has been on backwards compatibility, especially with the PlayStation 5 since it is the first piece of Sony hardware to have the feature since the original launch model PlayStation 3.

The excitement revolves around how the PlayStation 5's impressive tech will handle PlayStation 4 titles with regards to performance enhancements. That means some big titles may see a considerable boost in certain ways but it seems one of the PlayStation 4's most beloved games won't fully utilize the PlayStation 5's power.

It seems that early reviews confirm that developer FromSoftware's PlayStation 4 exclusive Bloodborne will be limited to 30 frames per second alongside its now notorious frame pacing problem. This is a considerable blow to fans hoping for an improved experience in the horror filled streets of Bloodborne.

While there are many titles that have been a key focal point for just how the PlayStation 5 would utilize backwards compatibility, the news of Bloodborne's limitations is a noteworthy sore point. Fans were so excited over the possible improvements that some even created videos predicting Bloodborne's performance on PS5 with 60 frames per second being the most desired feature. This confirmation has generated more speculation regarding why Sony and FromSoftware opted not to take full advantage with Bloodborne on the PlayStation 5. This doesn't mean the game won't get a bit of a boost as certain reviews do note reduced load times.

Some believe that the reason Bloodborne isn't exactly taking the big step now is for a next-gen upgrade to come down the line. It has been confirmed that Dark Souls 3 will be 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5, despite releasing a full year after Bloodborne's initial 2015 launch. Even more confusing is that last year's Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has also been confirmed to run at 60fps, meaning that the ability for Bloodborne to run at a better performance is very much present. Others have placed their bets on Bloodborne not simply getting a PlayStation 5 upgrade, but a full remaster bringing a whole new experience for one of the highly regarded games of the current generation. It could even be a holdover for the long-rumored PC port that fans have been begging for.

Until Sony or FromSoftware provide anymore confirmation on the matter, those looking for another romp through Bloodborne may have stick with a serviceable framerate. For those looking for a new fix in their Soulsborne adventures, PlayStation 5 players will have the Demon's Souls Remake as a launch title allowing for a different kind of stress test on their new DualSense controllers.

Bloodborne is available now for PlayStation 4.
