When Sackboy: A Big Adventure launches across both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 next week, you will only be able to play with friends in local co-op. Sumo Digital has made the decision to delay online multiplayer functionality, with it instead arriving via a free patch before the end of this year. The same can be said of save transfers from PS4 to PS5 — this functionality won't be available at release.
In a quick PlayStation Blog post, design director Ned Waterhouse said: "The team have been working hard to ensure that online is the very best experience it can be for players and we just need a little more time to get it right so you can enjoy it to the fullest with your friends and family."
You can still play the game with up to three other people in a local co-op setting, but doing so online will have to wait. This also means that if you start playing Sackboy: A Big Adventure on PS4 and then upgrade to the PS5 before this patch arrives, you will have to start the game over again or simply wait. Were you planning on playing through Sackboy's latest campaign over the internet? Let us know in the comments below.

As long as local coop is fine so the wife and I can play...that would have been deeply disappointing if it weren’t possible and would have caused me to have to delay playing.
Read that as the game is getting delayed so that is a much better outcome. I just want to see how it scores before picking it up. Its annoying the playstation legends preorder bonus seems only to appy to digital purchases
I'm glad they told me before I pre ordered the digital version... Oh wait, they didn't.
Unreal.
@oldschool1987 that sucks buddy
@Philbop probably still would have bought it anyway 😂but half the fun from LBP comes from its Co op
@oldschool1987 aye, I agree! let’s hope they get it sorted ASAP!
@Philbop are you getting it as well, pal?
@oldschool1987 I reckon so, I’ve got demons souls, Spider-Man ultimate and GodFall (not sure if it’ll be good but looks shiny at least) for lunch, and not sure whether to get sackboy or cod, think I’m leaning to sackboy though. What other games will you be getting?
@Philbop probably just ArseCreed and Sackboy. I recently got the Xbox One X so I've been catching up on the Gears and Halo games I missed out on and playing last gen games like Half-Life 2, Portal 2 and RDR. Now I'm playing RDR2 again on the One X lol. So two games on PS5 will do for now, I think
@oldschool1987 good choice of games there to be fair! Half life 2 is amazing! I’m getting assassins creed on Xbox series x, was extremely lucky and managed to get both consoles!

You won't have room for dinner, but you can always have dessert.
Sorry, couldn't resist.
@Philbop nice, fair play! I'll definitely get a Series X, probably when Halo Infinite releases.
I love HL2 so much 😂completed it countless times lol. Can add me on both consoles if you want, I think my accounts are on my profile?
@oldschool1987 I added on psn but don’t use my Xbox much until I get my series x, my username is the same as on here for Xbox
@Gravity_Bear there’s always time for dessert
@oldschool1987 Who knows? Maybe share play works
Everything about the PS5 launch feels like it's being seriously rushed.
@RainbowGazelle like ?
@Abeedo I never considered that, that should work.
@vapidwolf Disabled external SSD slot, patchy backwards compatibility, this being unfinished, for example.
@RainbowGazelle I can understand the disabled slot if they didn't youd get all sorts of idiots slotting in incompatible ssds theyve bought from asda potentially damaging the machine ,games get delayed,features get delayed all the time as a gamer you should be use to this its not a new thing and according to digital foundry backward compatibility is superb and should be applauded.
