It's nice to have a few launch exclusives so we can gauge what next gen games bring to the table.

I'm looking forward to Spiderman Miles but the level design for example will be held back by PS4 capabilities.

But when is it out!? Ugh!

Out of all the games shown, this is the one which didn't look possible on current gen hardware so no surprise really but welcome news nonetheless

Used to love R&C, but lost interest with A Crack in Time, so probably won't be bothering with this.

With how heavy the game is relying on the SSD, I'm not surprised.

@Medic_Alert have to imagine if Demons Souls was coming to PS4 it would have been announced by now.

As much as I would have liked to have another Ratchet & Clank game on PS4, I think this is awesome news. I loved R&C 2016 and Rift Apart will be one of the games I get when I eventually get a PS5.

I don't want to play this on ps4 even if the game is released there and I still don't have ps5, it will be loading time ever couple seconds lol.

I think it probably could have been done on PS4 but it likely would need loading screens every time you travel through a rift and would be heavily compromised graphically with frame rate issues during busier battles.
A wise decision by the devs and Sony to decide that just because something could be done doesn't mean it should be done and stick to only releasing it on the hardware it is optimised for - I'm sure they probably would have sold a lot of copies on PS4 but that may have a lasting effect on peoples memories if they play a game that is released in a less than ideal state.
Perhaps CDPR should have taken this decision when it became clear that Cyberpunk was really a next gen title.

The biggest problem the PS5 (and XBX) has is that at this very moment, no game has justified it’s existence as they’re still going to be on the PS4 (and one on the PS3). The only true exclusives have been delayed until next year. No matter if the made Miles Morales and Sack Boy PS5 exclusives, it’s obvious they don’t need a PS5 to run.

When those PS5 exclusives (including Ratchet and Clank) start turning up and are something you can’t get on the PS4, then I’ll think about getting one... maybe.

This is absolutely essential in my opinion. The whole showcase for this game seemed built to demonstrate the power of PS5 and the SSD. So it would have been surprising at the very least to find that this was cross gen.

@Medic_Alert If anyone actually believes it was human error, then they're gonna be disappointed. These things get reviewed and passed through multiple levels of checks multiple times.

Besides, both FFXVI and Demon's Souls had their wording changed from "also available on PC" to "not available on other platforms for a limited time". I guarantee you it was only changed after Sony saw the instant ridicule they got.

They're coming and will be best on PC.

From now on 'PLEASE' SONY can PS5 Exclusives just be PURE PS5 Exclusives! :-/ Well after Horizon 2, Spiderman MM and Sackboy that is. And no more to PC to. If PC players want to play PlayStation Exclusives they can buy a PlayStation it's as simple as that(Yeah it's simple just typing all this)

PS4 owners are still getting a sweet deal with Sackboy, Miles Morales and Horizon. I'm getting a PS5 at launch, but if I wasn't I'd still be buzzing for those games.

Tbh this game seems like the only true next generation game anyway.

Can't wait to play this game. When I first bought my PS4 I got Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted bundled with it. I played R&C a little bit but having had a go at Uncharted I ended up not coming back to R&C. 4 years later though and me and the kids have played all the way through the R&C games available on PS Now and have finally just about reached the end of R&C PS4, and I have to say I've really enjoyed all of them. The excellent gameplay, with the awesome variety of weapons, as well as the great characters and humour has really sold R&C to me.

but sony patched TLOU remastered to load in 13 seconds. pretty sure they just want you to buy the PS5. they can make it possible on PS4 if they want to. but they don't wanna. they wanna sell you the new hardware

@AK4tywill I still can't believe Horion 2 will be on PS4, what a waste of potential. I still hold out hope that in a few months Sony will announce that the PS4 version has been cancelled because PS4 couldn't handle it 🤞

@Juanalf I'm guessing Guerilla Games started working on it not too long after the first one and they might have hoped for a end of generation release but once they realised they wouldn't make it why not take your time and bring it to PS5 ?

And don't forget God of War Ragnarok too coming to PS4 as well as Sackboy, Miles Morales and Horizon 2 or at least could be if Sony wants to cater to those who are still on Current gen hardware...

It doesn't bother me if ALL or None come to PS4. I don't just buy a next gen Console for exclusives to that generation - I buy it to play the 'best' console version. I didn't PS4 just for Killzone, I bought it because it also offered the best visual and/or performance versions offered by much more capable hardware and will buy PS5 and Series X for the same reasons.

I would rather play Assassins Creed at 60fps than at 30fps for example and its clear that a number of games are struggling on current gen to even run at a locked 30fps. Of course I expect exclusives to hold frame rates better, but if I am spending money on a game, I want to play the best version of it I can with my hardware choices.

I wouldn't care less if ALL exclusives for the next year or two also released a current gen version. If a game can release on current gen, why not release it? If people care about visual quality and performance, they will upgrade to next gen or make do with current gen stutters, long loading etc

I know this is consumer unfriendly to say, but I am so glad to know for sure this is exclusive to PS5.

Rift Apart was one of the main draws for me to pre-order the PS5, and I would have held back if it was cross gen.
Looking forward to see how Insomniac utilises the full capabilities of the console.
Can't wait to play it... been a fan since the original on PS2.

Tools Of Destruction on the PS3 was the best R&C game to date for me (why is it not on PS Now?) so it'll be interesting to see if this can match it (dancing a pirate jig aside, of course!)

The game, in its current state, wouldn’t be possible on PS4. It needs the SSD to stream in the assets at such a fast rate.

I’m really excited for this. It’s my most hyped game of the PS5.

@Carl-G i doubt it there will be more cross gen games following such as god of war sequel, resident evil viii among others (especially from japanese studios). it won't be until mid 2022 when we start to see more true ps5 exclusives (outside of a few outliers) so no rush in getting a ps5. simple as that.

As excited as I am for Ratchet and Clank and all its technological wizardry, I can’t wrap my head around the issue with releasing a game cross gen. PS5 owners are still getting a premium product in its best form, so what if it can be played at a lower resolution with longer loading times and decreased render distance or whatever. The entire business model of the PS4 Pro was built and vindicated around the fact that consumers are willing to pay for an upgrade. God of War on the base PS4 wasn’t rendered in 4K and had no performance options yet it was still a fantastic experience. “Next Gen” is about more than just “not possible on existing platforms”. Even Ratchet and Clank would be possible on PS4, it just wouldn’t be a seamless experience. If I can play the best possible version of a game, I’m willing to pay for that. PC has done been doing this since its inception.

I believe this will be, and I'm glad for that fact as this is literally the only thing for me worth getting on ps5 (besides astro bot but that comes with it) now hzd is a ps4 game.
I do not believe God Of War 2 will be ps5 only.

If they used the same engine as ratchet and clank on ps4 and stuck in some work to get the loading screens they could have probably got it to work, but I would rather have next gen only versions too.

@Medic_Alert Demon’s Souls has already been confirmed as PS5 exclusive. There hasn’t been any comment on God of War yet.

I am sure the could of made this work on PS4 too. However it would be a lot more disruptive to the experience. The Portal jumping into a new world certainly wouldn't be a second or two and, if the game isn't 'cut' for illustrative purposes, that would seriously break the flow up.

In the demo, you jump into a portal into a world with up to 1minute of on rails game-play before falling into another portal with another short on rails game play into another portal...

If you are stuck in a portal for 30s or more for a minute of game-play before being stuck in another long fall through a rift whilst its loading up the next short sequence, it would get very disruptive and tedious.

I have no doubt the game could be made to run on PS4 BUT whether or not you would want those sequences, I doubt it. Nothing else I saw seemed to be out of the realms of possibility. Even those combat sequences with portal jumps to another area is possible now as that area is already loaded in to RAM anyway.

The SSD allows for quick jumps between worlds - like fast travel - and in this game, they are using it as a 'game-play' mechanic because they can load in worlds so much quicker so its not as disruptive and breaking the flow. Fast Travel is a choice in current gen, but you are making that choice. If the game decided to fast travel you to one point to do 30secs of on rails (literally in one world) gaming before fast travel to another short sequence to another fast travel etc and that fast travel was as long as some games take, you would be annoyed - but that doesn't mean that it 'couldn't' do that on current gen.

If they were making this for current gen, those sequences wouldn't exist because they break the flow so they are fundamentally correct to say that the game wouldn't work as it does on PS5. You either have very disruptive loading for essentially a tiny slice of game-play or you cut those sections completely. There maybe some other aspect we have yet to see but based on what we have seen, its easy to see why its not coming to PS4.

Its much more difficult to understand why a game like Miles Morales or GT7 couldn't if Sony decided not to release on PS4 with Spider-Man and GTSport both looking and running the way they do. Not saying GT7 will be, but if not, its more a case of Sony opting not to for 'reasons' than because of the game design - at least from what we have seen so far.

I don't understand the mentality of expecting Sony not to release games on PS4 if they can, to suddenly cease supporting it with first party content just because the PS5 is releasing. Why should they neglect the 100m+ PS4 gamers just to 'force' them to buy a PS5 when their PS4 could run the games - albeit scaled down to their hardware. The benefits (Visuals, frame rates, loading, audio, haptic feedback etc and any other advantages the console offers) are reasons enough to buy the next gen console and play the next gen versions...

@Medic_Alert Exactly, that mistake was an error in the text on the screen during the demo, and was likely meant for another game from the showcase that fit that description.

The Sony representative who gave a statement afterwards couldn’t have made it any more clear in the wording chosen by saying, “Demon’s Souls is exclusive to Playstation 5”. That’s a pretty clear confirmation in my opinion.

The rumor was further compounded by a Belgian website that incorrectly listed Demon’s Souls for PS4, but that was retracted and that website apparently has made errors in their listings before.

@Medic_Alert Sure, but the key difference being Horizon: Forbidden West was announced by Sony for PS4, meanwhile Demon’s Souls was clarified by Sony to be exclusive to PS5.

The error during the showcase was unfortunate and seems like something unlikely to happen, but we are all humans running the show, after all. Maybe Covid played some part in the production of the show and the slip up, who knows. Sony’s official statement was that it was a mistake due to human error.

@Medic_Alert That’s fine, I love a good conspiracy theory as much as the next person. You think they are doing a poor job of being clear on Demon’s Souls, I think they couldnt have been any more clear based on their statement.

But as of now there is no solid evidence of Demon’s Souls being on anything other than PS5. Your original comment was looking for confirmation on Demon’s Souls and God of War. They’ve given that confirmation for Demon’s Souls. Whether you believe it or not is up to you.

I would personally love for it to be released on PS4, I would double dip for sure if it was the same game at 1080p or something like that. I wasn’t able to get a PS5 pre-ordered.

@Perryg92 Don't worry. Consumer friendly is a loaded term that has no actual objective meaning. It's typically used by people that have an agenda and want to push it.

What is consumer friendly to one, is anti-consumer to another, it all depends on your angle and what is most important to you as a consumer.

From the beginning they said that PS4 can not handle the game, but always is great to hear the confirmation from devs. It is gonna be a fantastic game and 100% is a day one purchase for me. Sweet!

What about the Vita?

I wasn't that taken with the last one so while this might be a great show case for the PS5 its not on my list, at least at the moment. Demon Souls is the only launch title in my shopping basket right now. I need to see MM Spider-Man is a full experience before I jump onboard. Still if Demon souls is as good as it looks it will on its own make this a great launch.

My most anticipated game for the next-gen. Love the 2016 're-imagining' but this looks like a whole different level of awesome.

Too bad that this is not a launch game. Would have loved to play this on day one
