No Man's Sky's transformative evolution continues, as it's now been confirmed for PlayStation 5.
An enormous Next Generation update has been announced for the space exploration game, meaning you'll be able to play an enhanced version of the game on day one on your brand new PS5 — and yes, there's no charge. There are numerous improvements being made to the title, so let's go through some of them here.
Of course, it's getting a significant visual upgrade, with far more detailed worlds, and 60 frames-per-second performance at 4K resolution. Base building also benefits, as you'll be able to construct much larger bases than you can on PS4. Online multiplayer will support up to 32 players, and the update also introduces crossplay, so you'll be able to boldly go to new worlds with more buddies than ever. You'll also be able to upload your PS4 save data and carry on where you left off on PS5, so you don't have to start all over again.
On PS5 specifically, No Man's Sky will take advantage of the console's unique features, such as the DualSense controller. "Subtle haptic feedback allows you to feel the kick of your Multi-Tool as you blast Sentinels or mine resources, or the satisfying click of slotting a building part into place," reads the press release. In addition, the game will support PS5's 3D audio. Of course, loading times will be vastly improved thanks to PS5's SSD; warping will be up to 10 times faster, and the initial boot up sequence is significantly trimmed down. You'll also be able to play the PSVR version on PS5 via backwards compatibility.
You can read more details on all the above on the official No Man's Sky website. It sounds like yet another incredible update to the game. Will you be taking a trip to space on PS5 with this update? Tell us in the comments section below.

Very cool, but do I need to install the PS4 version to take advantage of psvr?
I might actually buy it now. Looks outstanding.
It's impressive support, I'll give them that.
Woop! Will be downloading this on day one for sure. Can't wait.
I think Hello Games deserve a fair amount of credit and recognition for how they've turned No Man's Sky around. Just as much as they deserved the initial criticism they got, they equally deserve some applause now.
"A delayed game is eventually good. A rushed game is forever bad"
Hello Games proved that wrong with post launch support.
@Xaessya
That quote comes from the early console days (N64 IIRC) where games were fire-and-forget. No patching, no ability to update the game over time. It has no meaning in the modern gaming world (except) for those of us that care about playing these games a decade or two later when the update servers may no longer be operational, and what is on the disc is what you get.
The sandbox mode on this in VR is brilliant. Hovering just outside the atmosphere of a planet and peeping out of the window is on another level.
On a separate note, and i understand that this may be on the embargo list, does it say anything in the PS5 box/manual regarding how to get the psvr adaptor?
Sweet will defo put it on at some point on ps5, hopefully the vr bit will be much smoother, played a good few hrs when they updated it for vr, it was good but really blurry, got a massive migraine after, so haven't been back since, hopefully will be better on ps5 vr
Cool, I'll try this when I have ps5 😃
Hello Games is going to suck me back in yet again. I just put in another 100 hrs into No mans sky and stopped playing in mid August. I had a lot of fun catching up on the last update. I am about maxed out on everything but keep going back for updates.
I'm glad this is a free update, but honestly I wouldn't of minded if they charged for it. Hello Games have offered so much free content that I feel they deserve to make some extra money!
Nice! I really love this game.
@tameshiyaku my main question as well.
@Weebleman it's inside the PS5 box, pal.
Absolutely incredible support for this game. And I'm gonna have a decent library of games ready for when I get my PS5 which adds real value.
@oldschool1987 I don't think thats true. I would have to double check the unboxing videos; but it doesn't make sense from their statement and from logical reasoning: including a unique adapter in the box for everyone that is only usable for a very small subset of players is not only not cost effective, but is a considerable amount of waste.
@Weebleman I think you will have to wait until post-launch for information about this.
I might have to pick this game up again. Gave my copy to my son. For those whom are still playing it, is there a story line now and ending? I had the game at launch and lack of story mode bored me. And hearing how the ending was just starting over killed my hopes.
I'm glad I kept my PS4 copy. I have the game on PC Game Pass for VR purposes but I'll gladly play it on the PS5.
@oldschool1987 I thought we had to request one from Sony. Thats awesome though if we dont as the less faffing for me the better. Cheers man!
@thedevilsjester just spotted this response. Ah well, i suppose the extra faff is needed but worth it. Appreciate the response pal.
@JAMes-BroWWWn That's what I was thinking. I've been holding off all of this time.
I got and "finished" the game with the Foundation Update. Then I restarted it once after the Abyss update and once after the ExoMech one, but other games distracted me. Maybe I'll do a second run on PS5 if they will ever stop to update it! 🤣
From one of the worst PR disasters in recent times to one of the best gaming experiences money can buy. A wholesome redemption story
@thedevilsjester just had a Google, I think you're right! No idea why I thought otherwise.
@Weebleman sorry, I think I'm wrong! I thought it was included, it would make more sense that way but Sony want to be difficult 😂
Kinda wish they'd do a physical release for PS5 with everything on disc. I'd honestly pay full price for it because of all the work they've done since launch. I know they did a new physical release with Beyond, but they've done a ton of work since then. But I mean...when does it end? They can't keep this going for free forever can they?
Very nice getting a PS5 update with save migration. Put a lot of hours into the PS4 version. My base pushes the CPU way too hard, fans always kicked in. Just to explore with a nice quiet console is my holy grail 😎
@thedevilsjester
Oh? I thought that came out around the 7th or 8th gen consoles.
@Medic_Alert nice! Just before i complete that form do you know if it is for users in the uk? Wouldnt want to end up blocking myself from getting one.
@Xaessya Nope, its actually something Miyamoto said (though there is debate about the exact wording) during the N64 era. He did give a followup during the WiiU era to clarify in "I didn’t mean to say a bad game is always bad, what I meant to say is if you release a game in a bad state you will always regret it"
@oldschool1987 no worries. Should have known that all sounded to straight forward 😂
@Medic_Alert think I'll hang fire just in case. Last thing id want is to end up goosing myself into being charged haha

@thedevilsjester
That sounds right.
@Quintumply Will save data from the PS5 version work on the PS4 version for VR? I know the PS4 data works on the PS5, but does it work the other way around too?
@Jaz007 I'm not sure about that! I'll have to give it a test when the time comes.
how about a huge upgrade for VR? it runs at 20fps with a 2080ti
If you look at the trailer at 0:35 it looks a little like a creature from HZD.
