Launching today for all major platforms through publisher Humble Games, Carto is the story of a young girl who accidentally triggers a wind storm while playing with her grandmother's magic map, whisking her away to the realm the map controlled.

This adventure game by Taiwanese developer Sunhead Games features calm music and hand-drawn art vaguely reminiscent of The Guise, just a bit brighter. The game's puzzle-like map mechanic allows players to move and rotate map pieces, effectively rearranging the play area, and opening access to new areas. Confirmed biomes include water, grassy areas, forests, deserts, and mountains.

This title is rated E for Everyone, though the trailer does mention "comic mischief." Scattered around the game's painted landscapes are various characters, many of whom ask for Carto's help. By aiding and befriending these strangers, the girl recovers map pieces she can use on her journey home. Some routes will be blocked off at first, making it necessary to rearrange map pieces to progress the game.

This is Sunhead Games' first foray into both the PC and console markets. Its previous two titles, A Ride Into the Mountains, a retro side-scrolling shooter on horseback, and The Swords, a puzzle ball-bouncer with an inked theme, were both released on mobile devices.

There is a free demo on Steam for PC and Mac, and the title is included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which may come to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch in the future.

Carto is available on Mac and PC via Steam, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
