Battlefield 3 Reality Mod and VU Modding Tools coming soon

The King is Dead, Long live the King

Huge news from the modding scene as the extensive ‘Venice Unleashed’ VU modding framework of tools for Battlefield 3 now has a firm release window.  Come December, PC players can look forward to a treasure trove of new community content like the newly confirmed Battlefield 3: Reality Mod. Check out the teaser trailer for VU below!

Electronic Arts’ premier shooter franchise Battlefield might have gone through various World Wars and adapted to modern sensibilities like battle royale and live service games to mixed success, but there’s no denying that the modern military setting was when the series reached its peak.

Battlefield 3 & 4 are still among the most beloved FPS games in existence with a diehard player base fragging like there’s no tomorrow. Almost a decade after the third game launched on last-gen systems, it sure looks like that popularity is going to receive a new adrenaline shot in the form of the VU modding toolkit.

VU (a/k/a Venice Unleashed) is a modding and improvement framework for Battlefield 3. With it you can host private dedicated servers at a higher tickrate, configure gameplay elements such as suppression and the blue tint, but also create entirely new gameplay experiences using its modding capabilities.

Suffice to say, this is a purely community-driven project which has no ties to neither EA nor Dice. But what VU promises to offer is nothing but a game-changer. From level creation to scripting and everything in between, with VU the doors for entirely new game modes are opened wide.

One of whom is Battlefield 3: Reality Mod. Aiming to be a spiritual successor to BF2’s outstanding Project Reality conversion, the title is the name of the game here. Punishing combat with highly enhanced realistic mechanics all across the board transforms BF3 into a tactical shooter where a single decision can mean the difference between life and death.

Both VU and BF3: Reality Mod now have a release window of December later this year. It’s a highly promising start for what’s sure to become one of the best reasons for players to return to the modern military setting of Battlefield 3.
