For a show that's been running nearly 20 years, Big Brother is still going strong. Despite the restrictions placed on filming by Coronavirus safety protocols, the 21st season is still on its way, and the reality series is showing no signs of slowing down or waning in popularity. Now for fans of the show, there's a new way to participate in the fun. Big Brother: The Game is launching on mobile devices worldwide on October 15th.

The game promises to recreate the experience of being a contestant on the iconic game show, allowing players to work, play, and strategize their way to being the last player left in the house. It's not just a solo experience, however, as the game claims to usher in a "new genre of reality gaming." The latest press release boasts big prizes and high stakes in huge multiplayer games:  "With a life changing prize fund up for grabs, anyone, anywhere can win the world’s first massively multi-player online reality TV show."

It also has an interesting business model: while the game is free to download and access, there are in-game purchases that can be made. There are two game modes, spectator and housemate. While the player can presumably spectate games freely, in order to become a housemate and compete for prizes, the player has to spend a token, which can be purchased in game for the price of $4.99. At the time of writing the exact prize for winning as a housemate has not been specified, but the advertisements seem to suggest that real world rewards might be up for grabs.

Big Brother: The Game is being developed by 9th Impact, a game development studio based in Ireland that has won several awards for its various titles. The company specializes in creating games based on TV shows with the cooperation and partnership of the brand owners, and has had some significant success in that market. They have been developing Big Brother: The Game over the course of the past three years, and they describe it as "the official MMO season of Big Brother for mobile, online and PC download."
