Much has been said about the roughness of Assassin's Creed Valhalla since its first gameplay reveal, but the upcoming open worlder is looking a lot more like the finished article in this brand new story trailer. Granted, we don't know how much of this video is touched up (we imagine that most of it is), but it's still one of Valhalla's best showings.
Ubisoft certainly knows how to fuel hype with cinematic trailers like this, but has it worked? Let us know if you're excited for Assassin's Creed Valhalla in the comments section below.

So it is basically Vikings the video game!
Maybe this and Miles Morales are my PS5 games at launch (if I can get a PS5)
That doesn't look too bad. I mean this is literally just Assassin's Creed again but with vikings (That's exactly what it is), but as long as it's, you know, good, I'll consider getting this.
I'm still a little burned out on the formula after the epic Odyssey, but I'll definitely pick this up sometime next year.
Yea... instead of these story trailers, they should start showing actual gameplay trailers; gameplay coming from their latest/final built of the game, not older ones.
Anyhow, after all I have seen from this game, I'm still not convinced this is something that I will enjoy...
Absolutely loving AC2 playing it for the first time so we’ll see if my hype for Valhalla wanes as I work my way through the series 😂
I loved Origins but could not for the life of me get into Odyssey. This looks like more of the same which is a shame as I like vikings and the setting. Also after playing Ghost with its minimalist HUD and great combat, this could feel even worse to play.
The game looks nice, and as a history grad who studied in King Alfred's home city , the historical accuracies interests me.
However, watching the trailer, I felt I could see the gameplay loop pretty easily of taking over battlements over and over again (reminding me of Far Cry 4)
Haven't played AC since Syndicate (which bored me due to repetition), so not sure if Origins and Odyssey have that same loop of taking over regions...?
@Perryg92 Origins shook things up a bit and they made it more into an open world exploration RPG game with quests. That combat is different too to previous. I really liked Origins, but the formula is feeling old already imo after just 2 games.
Looks great. It is set further back in the timeline than I thought it would be in, but that is a good thing.
This is a PS5 launch title for me. If anything like Odyssey It will keep me busy for a while. Great to see AC back to form.
0:22 - Kassandra's descendant confirmed. She has the exact same hairstyle, lol. Re-used assets.
What bothers me about this entry is the end of the trailers says "think like a Viking", "act like a Viking", etc etc, when the focus of this series should be on the Assassin Order. I get that Eivor is a Viking, but isn't the point that we're supposed to be aspiring to the Brotherhood? So, shouldn't the focal message be about transforming into that?
Oh, is this that new game I've heard so much about? Viking's Creed: No more Assassins?
Looks good except for the people, they all look like lifeless animated dolls. They're stiff and have empty eyes.
@PunkRx_Lockly
This, it isn't about Assassin's anymore. A bit over the top. I liked it in Origins that you worked towards forming the Brotherhood but this seems to much action focused with the assassin's part being an after thought.
Also I'm curious to see the PS4 version in action.. Is there PS4 gameplay or is all the gameplay next gen? Curious to see if they gave the current gen some attention or if they left it behind an focused mainly on next gen.. The Ubisoft thing to do..
The only way this trailer was "touched up" was to downgrade it, I guess. The only thing looking next-gen like is the scenery. There are missing shadows even under main characters – wtf. I mean, I'm not here to hate, but there is something that bothers me graphically in almost every shot. Like when they are walking in water, and there are no splashes like in a 2003 game. And when these two dudes go thru snow and they leave no steps there. When the leader dude walks on an invisible plane above the wooden floor and the shadow under him looks like it's in the air. When their arm collides inside each other. Am I the only one who is bothered by this? Its 2020 and its coming for PS5. And what about those animations? Yeah, nobody matcher Naughty dog, but this is 20 levels below them. Is it me?
@Fenbops Imo, Origins was better than Odyssey :
- better combat : Odyssey felt too close to a mmorpg style, Origins felt more hands-on and dynamic
- better character : don't get me wrong, Kassandra was great, but she was a superhero, a demi-god, while Bayek was human, believable and relatable. He was a man we would like to be, while Kassandra was a woman we'd admire from afar
- better world : outside of the Egyptian settings which felt more exotic, more strange, the size was perfect : huge, but not overwhelmingly so, full of details that felt meaningful, every city different from each other
- better story : the mythological aspects in Origins were very few, and always ambiguous, and you could really feel the Assassins/Templars struggle at its, well, origin, while in Odyssey, it was like observing a myth so far distant from reality it felt too detached. And the size of the game made it hard to follow the story up to the end in Odyssey.
If it’s as good looking and interesting as Odyssey then I’ll be happy.
Looking forward to exploring that world, it looks gorgeous.
@PunkRx_Lockly exactly, it feels like history channel rather than assassin's creed but 🤷🏾♂️
@Olmaz origins was so much better, somehow it even looks better
@Olmaz can’t argue with that my friend.
Im tempted to get this. It's a good price and we can't say thay about many PS5 launch titles. I am concerned looking at in game stuff outside of this trailer though. In a world where Ghost of Tsushima completely did away with on screen clutter, the HUD in this game is very grating
I have always been an assasins creed fan so i will get thia game regardless lol
@PunkRx_Lockly
Its not her descendant. Its her. Idk if u played/beat Odyssey's Atlantis DLC....but let's just say she's still alive and hanging about here and there around this time. 😁
@Gilvin I’m definitely getting Vikings (the tv show) vibes from that trailer.
@0.12 Ragnar
@0.23 Lagertha
@0.25 Rollo
@0.30 Great Hall
@0.40 Strait from Kattegat
@1.04 Halfdan the Black
I’d really wish Ubisoft would just do away with the Assassin’s Creed name, they could of easily just named this simply as Valhalla and make it just about vikings.
I think people forget that going back I history that it's showing that assassin's and Templars were a thing before they became a thing. I think it looks great and can't wait to see how it ties in with the story. I also hope soon they'll go back to the main story line of modern day and finish up the "end of the World"
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't going to get this but looks like I'm going to have to start accepting that the Assassins Creed I knew is dead. Switched genres and isn't even about Assassins anymore, it's just the 'insert time period' Simulator now I guess.
Lolol, does it? Looks, to me, like a launch PS4 game that also had a PS3 version.
I noticed they seem to try and avoid showing the characters talking. And the brief amount of time they did it looked like ass. The face and mouth movements not even almost matching the words coming out. Is this a PS2 game?
@Recon7 - In all honesty, it's entirely plausible that Kassandra could have sought out suitors in her 2,000+ year reclusion. I wouldn't be surprised if she had a few daughters...
@OlosNah - The further they stray from the Creed the more flexibility they have to explore new scenarios and justify more bombastic set-pieces. Unfortunately, this approach creates a rift between themselves and traditional fans who appreciated the more principally bound entries, like Brotherhood or Revelations for instance.
@theMEGAniggle - It's missing that magic isn't it? Hey, let's ask Patrice what happened.
@Olmaz - You're making me want to pop Origins in again.
@PunkRx_Lockly tbh they'll probably have loads of assassin's creed stuff in it but nothing will ever beat the assassin's creed story of AC 1 to Unity. All those games had the best growth from nobody to master assassin ☹️.
I hope they got this, I will buy it
@theMEGAniggle - Brotherhood, Rogue, and Syndicate remain my favs, but yeah, generally speaking, the older games have a bit more panache and charisma. Ezio, Haytham, and Edward come to mind.
Wake me up when they show some flipping gameplay!
@PunkRx_Lockly you like syndicate? That was genuinely my least favourite one
@theMEGAniggle Syndicate is my favourite entry, might help that I'm British but I loved the setting, Evie Frye and the focus on the creed. Not too big a fan of Jacob and the light hearted tone though.
Different strokes and all that!
@J2theEzzo it has assassins but at time there called hidden ones before they become the assassins brotherhood mean assassins creed origins is start of the hidden ones as for assassins creed odyssey based before the order aswell and vikings around that time too
@theMEGAniggle - Yeah, it's not for everyone, but I just really enjoyed the recreation of Victorian London along with the parkour and scenery. Plus I REALLY like the outfits and the black-box missions. It's basically as close to GTA Assassin's Creed came, lol.
@PunkRx_Lockly that's fair, it just really felt like a parody to me 😂
And too repetitive even for an assassin's creed game
@Cloud39472 I liked Jacob but nothing else really
For me it's more than enough that there are VIKINGS !!!!!! 5/5 🔥💯👍🏻
game looks phenomenal, they fixed the faces in the cutscenes and the overall engine looks extremely polished...if thr gameplay is anythig like odyssey it is gonna be spectacular
Loved seeing this trailer with the true Eivar.
@Perryg92 Origins didn't do that but Odyssey did, however in my opinion it was more for historical accuracy because the setting was during the Peloponnesian Wars and it mostly wasn't required for the story
@PunkRx_Lockly That might play into the story, like someone trying to keep Eivor in the Viking way, while he strays more toward the Assassin way
So polished they had to recycle Kassandra.
@ACfan4758 - I imagine it probably will to an extent, but I suspect that he will not fully become an Assassin until the very end, since most of the marketing seems to be pushing open combat, raids, the Viking way of life, etc. There were a few Assassins shown in the trailer, but to what degree they will have an effect on the story, it remains to be seen. In my opinion, the Assassins will be made known about 30-40% of the way through the game. Eivor will become somewhat acquainted with them and their ways, but will not fully commit to becoming one of them and won't embrace their lifestyle until the finale. This will be somewhat similar to Black Flag I think.
Cinematic looked nice and all, but still waiting for the Gold Edition to drop down to ~$20-$30 in 2-3 years lol.
Behind that cinematic sits multi-currency micro-transactions
