Sega has debuted gameplay footage of Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis during TGS 2020 after being first announced back in July. Fans were able to see three base Class types the game will offer as Sega demonstrated the game's "open-field" action and gameplay mechanics for Hunter, Ranger and Force characters.

Hunters are well-balanced for close-ranged combat and defense, whereas both Rangers and Force class characters are long-range specialists. All class types can utilize different class weapons options, allowing players to customize their experience to suit their character preferences. Given the game's penchant for crossovers, fans can probably expect additional cosmetic items in the future, too.

As it showed off the class types, Sega noted how Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis will be divided into two sections: "Exploration" and "Battle." When experiencing the "Exploration" section of the game, players can, unsurprisingly, explore areas, finding and earning items for their journey.

The "Battle" section of the game allows players to meet other gamers at the entrances of Battle Sections to form parties of 4. Enemies will appear on the map alongside a gauge of distance from the party, with the video showcasing a range of enemy types that people can expect to encounter in Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis from large, intimidating monsters to small, quick creatures.

Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis will be accessible within Phantasy Star Online 2, with the original video game receiving a huge graphical overhaul to make use of New Genesis' engine. Gamers will reportedly have the choice to switch graphic engines as they see fit, changing between Phantasy Star Online 2's original look and New Genesis' models as they play.

Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis will be available in 2021 on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
