While Game Freak may still be busy working on Pokemon Sword and Shield's post launch content, like the upcoming Crown Tundra DLC, many Pokemon fans are anxious for what's coming next. Nothing official has been announced to date, but some new Nintendo trademarks may very well suggest that Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the DS remakes of the classic Game Boy Color games, will be coming to Switch at some point in the near future.

Nintendo renewed its HeartGold and SoulSilver trademarks on September 17, as pointed out by abcboy101 on Twitter. Now, it's entirely possible that Nintendo did this as just a routine trademark renewal, but it's also possible that this could be a hint at future plans for HeartGold and SoulSilver. Maybe Nintendo plans on remaking the games for the Switch, or, the more likely scenario, maybe Nintendo is going to port the games to its home console/handheld hybrid instead.

While the Wii U has a variety of Nintendo DS games available to download, the Switch has no equivalent Virtual Console service. And not only that, but the Switch's design may make porting DS games to it a little more difficult than it was with the Wii U. Considering this, Nintendo could release slightly tweaked versions of HeartGold and SoulSilver on the Switch that remove the dual-screen functionality and rework things so that it all works when playing on a single screen.

If Nintendo is planning on re-releasing Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, it's safe to say that it could very well upset some fans of the franchise. After all, many Pokemon fans have been clamoring for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes, with the games, and their Sinnoh region, trending worldwide on Twitter after every Pokemon series announcement event. If Nintendo were to announce HeartGold and SoulSilver ports instead of Diamond and Pearl remakes, it could upset those who want to revisit the DS games.

Alternatively, fans may want Nintendo to go a bit further if it plans on reviving HeartGold and SoulSilver for Switch. For example, some may want to see Nintendo create Let's Go Gold and Silver, which is a potential project that's been rumored for some time. While it wouldn't be quite the main series Pokemon release that some fans would want, Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee certainly had its fans, and at least this way it would give fans a new way to experience the Johto region.

But all of this is just speculation at this time. Right now, all Pokemon fans can count on for sure in terms of upcoming core video games is the Crown Tundra DLC expansion for Sword and Shield, as well as New Pokemon Snap.
