Naughty Dog has branded 26th September – the fictional date referring to the spread of the cordyceps virus in The Last of Us lore – as Outbreak Day for some time now, but amid the coronavirus pandemic, the developer has committed to a name change. As part of a Twitter statement, the studio said that it will now name the event The Last of Us Day.

Celebrations will get underway starting this Saturday, where the developer has promised “exciting things” that it can’t wait to share in the coming days. Don’t get your hopes up too high, though – typically this means limited edition merchandise and PlayStation 4 themes, not entirely new game announcements et al.
