Activision and Treyarch are delivering on the promise made this past week during Sony's PlayStation 5 showcase. The PlayStation 4-exclusive Alpha for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is now live. And alongside the launch of the exclusive Alpha, Call of Duty fans can now look to see just exactly what content will be included. The Black Ops Cold War Alpha is now confirmed to feature 5 different maps as well as 5 different playable multiplayer modes.

Regarding the Black Ops Cold War Alpha maps, there's a mix of brand new and returning maps for players to experience. New maps include both Satellite and Miami, which are available as 6v6 maps during the Alpha. Returning will be Moscow, a 6v6 map, and two 12v12 maps in Armada and Crossroads.

For those curious about the new Black Ops Cold War maps specifically, some early information has already been shared. Satellite is set in a desert in Angola, so expect a lot of sand and dunes. The premise for the map is a battle over a downed US satellite. A high ground in the middle of the map will be surrounded by a variety of natural cover and interesting sightlines. Miami is a great counterpoint to Angola, being an urban map near the South Beach. It's a more traditional 3-lane map with clear site lines and a lot of great flanking opportunities.

Players will be able to enjoy the 5 Black Ops Cold War maps via 5 different game modes, four of which are 6v6 and one 12v12. The four 6v6 modes include Team Deathmatch, Domination, Kill Confirmed, and Hardpoint. The 12v12 mode is Combined Arms: Domination. It should be noted that Hardpoint will not be available for the first day of the Alpha and will instead be added on September 19 instead.

For an Alpha, there's a substantial amount of content for players to try. It should be more than enough for Call of Duty multiplayer fans to figure out whether or not they want to play Black Ops Cold War at launch or later.

The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Alpha is only planned to last two full days, so PS4 players should make the most of it as they're able. It officially started today, September 18, at 10:00 am PT and it's planned to last until Sunday, September 20, at 10:00 am PT. There will absolutely be more opportunities to play before launch, of course. The PS4 alone will have two exclusive Black Ops Cold War betas, one for pre-orderers and one open to everyone. PC and Xbox betas will follow.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War releases November 13 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and S.
