The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War PlayStation 4-exclusive Alpha is now in full swing, and Alpha is proving a fitting description. Early reports from Alpha players indicate that there are a variety of troublesome and frustrating issues with Black Ops Cold War. The worst error, or at least one that appears to be getting quite a bit of visibility, is preventing players from joining a match. When searching for games, players will receive the error "The lobby is not joinable" rather than joining a game.

There's nothing complicated about the error and no apparent reason for its cause, as of yet. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Alpha players are simply reporting that they're starting up one of the Alpha's playlists and receiving this error in turn. Outside of it happening during any routine example of trying to join a match from the lobby, there's no other cause. As such, it doesn't seem to be due to any action on the player's part, but rather an issue with Black Ops Cold War's servers or matchmaking.

Given that the root cause of the issue isn't known, it should be understood that there's no known fix for the issue, either. Most of those reporting the error are saying that it consistently occurs, regardless of whether they try again or if they restart the game. This perhaps implies that the Alpha's servers are overloaded and that servers are unable to handle some of the players. Continuing to try seems like the best, and perhaps only, recourse for the time being.

The idea that it might be a server issue related to significant amounts of players trying to play at the same time is substantiated by social media. Namely, a search for "Lobby is not joinable" on Twitter shows that virtually all examples of individuals saying they're experiencing the error came from within the first 1-2 hours of the Alpha's launch. Since then, there are virtually no people mentioning the error.  It's quite possible that few if any are experiencing the error anymore, as Activision and Treyarch adjusted their servers to account for the increased player count.

There are, of course, other errors being reported. There are reports of corrupted data, forming parties, and all manner of in-game glitches. This is an Alpha, after all, and problems are to be expected. Treyarch lead game designer Tony Flame has already reassured players that a ton of updates and polish is in the works before Black Ops Cold War launches this November.

And behind the issues, there's a lot of good news, too. Those able to play the Alpha without problems are sharing a lot of positive feedback with their experience. Players are digging the return of Call of Duty's map voting, seem happy with the Time-To-Kill, and enjoy the new maps.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War releases November 13 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S and X.
