Monster Hunter Rise is the newest installment in the mainline Monster Hunter series, and it's coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch next year. Monster Hunter Rise for Switch contains the same monster-hunting gameplay that the series has become famous for, though it seems it might be just a bit smaller scale than Monster Hunter World.

Many of the series’ staple elements look to be returning with Monster Hunter Rise along with some fresh new monsters and mechanics. However, one staple element that is making its return is the hunter’s base, which is known as Kamura Village in Monster Hunter Rise.

For those who may have missed the announcement, Capcom revealed some big news yesterday alongside Nintendo. During the Nintendo Mini Direct partner presentation, Capcom announced a brand new Monster Hunter game exclusively for Nintendo Switch, called Monster Hunter Rise. Monster Hunter Rise looks to be a full-fledged mainline entry in the Monster Hunter series unlike Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, which was also announced at the presentation. Monster Hunter Rise contains plenty of returning elements, like the hunter’s base where players prepare for the hunts ahead of them.

The hunter’s base is known as Kamura Village this time around. Similar to Astera in Monster Hunter World, players can expect to buy weapons and armor here, as well as order meals to give buffs before a hunt. Interestingly, Kamura Village is styled like a traditional Japanese village from feudal Japan, which seems to be the overall setting and aesthetic of Monster Hunter Rise. Kamura Village will also have a number of NPCs that players will become acquainted with over the course of the game.

The official website for Monster Hunter Rise gives a bit more information about Kamura Village. The blurb says, “This village, known for its Tatara Steel, is where hunters make their living. The Rampage, a calamity that ravaged the village 50 years ago, is about to occur again, so the inhabitants are in turmoil. The hero has to become the best hunter there is and overcome this calamity with the help of all the villagers.” Naturally, players will be spending a lot of time in Kamura Village, as they prepare to hunt the brand new monsters revealed for Rise.

Not much else is known about Kamura Village, though players can assume it will function fairly similarly to other hunter’s bases from past Monster Hunter titles. However, it does seem like there may be an added emphasis on building relationships with the various NPCs present at Kamura Village.

The inhabitants of Kamura Village were specifically noted multiple times after the game was unveiled, meaning there may be a mechanic that tracks player’s relationships with each NPC in the village. Regardless, players will no doubt find out plenty more about Kamura Village before Monster Hunter Rise launches in March exclusively on Nintendo Switch.

Monster Hunter Rise will release on Nintendo Switch on March 26, 2021.
