Somewhat mirroring the approach it took with Grand Theft Auto V earlier in the year, Sony showed Fortnite running on the PlayStation 5 for the first time during its livestream overnight – and it looks, well, pretty good. The title is utilising Unreal Engine 4, and while it’s just a glimpse, the improvements are obvious. Crucially, all of your progress and purchases will carry across.

Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz, boss Jim Ryan explained how important it is for the Japanese giant to keep communities together as it transitions to a new generation. “If we're going to have the scale and pace of a platform transition that we aspire to,” he explained, “it's very important that we are careful not to neglect any one of these sub-communities that attach themselves very faithfully to particular titles.”
