Season 12 is coming soon to Destiny 2, and with it are new ritual and adept weapons, which are obtainable through specific quests. The gear isn't available yet, but the official designs have been released and some players are highly critical of this part of what Beyond Light is bringing to Destiny 2.

Bungie is revealing Beyond Light info bit by bit for the Destiny 2 community before the update happens this fall and some of the most recent reveals are Beyond Light's armor designs. Both the armor sets and the weapons are getting a lot of criticism, with some people saying they liked the old designs better or saying this expansion's designs are just uncreative.

Many players were excited to hear Adept weapons are coming to Destiny 2, after they were pretty popular back in Destiny 1 and could be achieved by players who got Flawless in the Trials of Osiris. When the Trials came to Destiny 2, some veteran players anticipated getting Adept weapons with their intrinsic third perks, but were disappointed to not see them available in the Flawless chests.

Adept weapons are on the way in a future season for Trials, but the latest reveals have those fans concerned. One Destiny player poked fun at those fears in an image of fake "adept weapons."

The Adored gun looks a lot like Beloved, but wrapped in a poorly-rendered purple cloth, which to some players looks just poorly made and poorly designed. Some people seem to think the purple "bandanna" is cool, but the majority opinion is that Bungie just took an old design, tied a cloth around it, and is presenting that as what was supposed to be a highly-anticipated weapon in Destiny 2.

Players are also comparing rare armor from Destiny 1 with the new core activity armor coming next season to Destiny 2, calling the newer armor lackluster. Twitter user @DestinyNostalgia stresses that they're a huge fan of the Destiny 2 art team's work in general, but that this new armor just doesn't look exciting or innovative, and they're just disappointed. Many comments agree that the Destiny 2 armor feels clunky when compared with older armor, but there's no solid consensus, with some people expressing their affinity for some Destiny 2 armor sets.

While there's definitely some disagreement over the general quality of Destiny 2 designs, it's clear that the Beyond Light gear is getting a pretty negative reaction. Hopefully players are more impressed by the content and features when they get a chance to play the expansion.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available on November 10 for PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. A PS5 version is also in development.
