One of the best-reviewed games of the generation, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt surprised just about everyone when it came to Nintendo Switch. Wild Hunt has not had its last hurrah on the platform yet, however, at least if a new leak is to be believed.

A massive game full of tiny details, Wild Hunt running on Nintendo Switch at all is an impressive feat. The Complete Edition, including both popular expansions for the game, was the version of the game that arrived on the Switch platform last year. It seems odd that another version of the RPG would need to release at all, but leaks point to a new Switch edition coming soon.

While the recently confirmed next-gen versions of Wild Hunt are understandable, this second Switch version is confusing. The game’s title only adds to the confusion, with Media Markt, the German retailer that leaked the game, calling the newest port the “Light Edition” of the game. What exactly a so-called light edition of the game would look like is unclear, though it is likely not Wild Hunt with a brighter game world, more torches, or a skinnier Geralt.

A version of the game with some of the amazing Wild Hunt PC mods, such as the upcoming HD Rework mod releasing next week, also seems very unlikely. With the more powerful consoles lacking mod support, Switch getting it would make little sense. One other unlikely possibility could see this version of The Witcher 3 being smaller than the current Switch port. While the game does take up a fair amount of storage space on the Switch platform, it is not enough to justify an entirely different edition of the game.

The most believable purpose of this leaked Light Edition is to provide a cheaper version of the game without the DLC attached. This presents issues too, however, as the price of the edition seems to be the same as the complete edition based on the leak. This could easily be a placeholder, though it would still be odd for this to be the case regardless. Unless the price difference is drastic, players would likely stick with the version that features the game’s expansions and the awesome villains within them. Beyond that, many people interested in a Switch version of Wild Hunt are likely to have bought it by now.

An October 16th release date was provided within the leak for the new edition, so fans will get some info on what the latest version of the game entails soon. Considering that Wild Hunt is one of the most played games of all time, new editions of the Geralt-focused RPG make sense (even if some of the editions’ titles do not).

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions are in development.
