Crysis is a game that has been pushing the limits of hardware since its original release, so much so that it led to the meme "Can it run Crysis?" being applied to almost any piece of gaming technology. This legendary meme status was even included as a tongue-in-cheek graphics setting in Crysis Remastered. The game continues to impress, with the inclusion of ray tracing on the upcoming console versions of the technically demanding FPS.

Ray tracing is starting to appear in a number of titles on PC, and is being shown off as part of next-gen console sizzle reels to entice players to upgrade. Even well-established games like Fortnite will soon add ray tracing to enhance the graphical experience. The dynamic lighting that ray tracing offers is an advancement that subtly adds realism to the way a game world is lit.

Now Crysis Remastered is bringing ray tracing to current generation consoles, or at least the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. Pushing these consoles to their limit, the game uses some clever optimizations of the hardware to produce the effect. Limiting the ray tracing effect to a close radius to the player being just one way to save power, while also rendering the reflections ray tracing produces at a lower resolution.

If players choose not to go for the full ray-tracing experience, Crysis Remastered offers three graphic modes to choose from, so players can go with the setting they like best.

While the game has fully embraced its meme status with regard to graphical capability, Crysis Remastered continues to make the most out of hardware.

Crysis Remastered is available now on Nintendo Switch, and PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions will launch on September 18th.
