Super Mario 3D All-Stars was announced at a Nintendo Direct event last week, and fans of the franchise have been making their excitement well-known online. The pre-orders of this collection of three classic games for the Nintendo Switch are selling like hotcakes, and already surpassed some of the biggest 2020 game releases on Amazon.

Even though it was only announced on Thursday, Super Mario 3D All-Stars has received an incredible number of pre-orders for the game already, and many more continue to pour in. Some Super Mario scalpers on eBay have even priced the physical boxed copy of the game at £200, even though the stated price is around four times less than that. This kind of enthusiasm has enabled the Mario game to reach staggering numbers in such a short amount of time, and this especially shows when held up to other big games released this year.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars has received a rousing round of approval from the Nintendo franchise's fanbase, and it shows in the sale numbers. According to Amazon, the game's pre-orders have overtaken many of this year's most popular games. The bestselling list for the online retailer's video game category includes some items such as gift cards to the PlayStation Store or Nintendo eShop store as well as items like headsets and controllers.

However, in terms of the physical games one can buy from amazon, Super Mario 3D All-Stars is currently listed second overall. According to this list, The Last of Us 2 is fourth place when looking at physical video games sold on the site, meaning that the Mario Switch port has sold more copies on Amazon than one of the best selling non-Nintendo games this year.

The only game that is currently ranked higher than Super Mario 3D All-Stars on Amazon is Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which has been topping many different sales charts since its release in March. Many gamers have been looking to these classic franchises for entertainment when they have been buying games for the Switch, which make the recent Mario ports even more palatable.

Nintendo has shown the Mario franchise quite a bit of love for the series' 35th anniversary, from announcing Super Mario 3D All-Stars to creating a new Mario-themed clothing line. In return, many fans of the franchise are eagerly awaiting the collection's release for the Switch and have put their money where their mouth while they are doing so.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars will launch on September 18 on Nintendo Switch.
