Over the past couple of weeks, Bungie has opened up considerably about the changes coming to Destiny 2 when Beyond Light launches in November. While much of the discussion has surrounded new content like the Stasis subclasses and how customizable they are, Bungie is subtlety bringing other enhancements to the current game. Earlier this week, Bungie made an important change that likely went under the radar for most Destiny 2 players.
Highlighted by the Bungie Help Twitter account, the maintenance that took place for the website and Destiny API earlier this week had a major impact on the Destiny 2 companion app. According to the tweet, the item transfer performance was massively increased. When using either the Companion App or another third-party application, transferring items should now be 10 times faster than it was previously.
While the announcement may not be quite as exciting as new content or Beyond Light reveals, a good portion of the community has praised the performance boost. In fact, one Destiny subReddit user even put together a video to show off the new transfer and item management speeds for players who want a visual. While using the app, transferring items from storage to the player's inventory as well as changing gear is is now lightning fast.
The Reddit thread has also caught the attention of Edgar Verona, former member of the Destiny API team and current gameplay engineer at Bungie. Originally thought to have his hand in this update, Verona confirmed that he had moved to a different group working on Destiny 2, but stuck around to chat with players. In fact, the actual API Lead developer who goes by sassy_warsat revealed that implemented throttles on limit transfers don't actually impact how quickly things get completed during a transfer. Whatever changes were made to the code, it wasn't simply by removing the throttles.
Even with two months still remaining until Beyond Light releases, players won't have to wait too much longer for news on the anticipated expansion. Earlier in the week, the new Shadebinder Warlock subclass was officially revealed, giving players a look at its new Stasis powered abilities and super. Later today, Bungie is planning on revealing the Behemoth, the Titan's new Stasis subclass. The previous Gamescom trailer showed off a good portion of what players can expect, giving a sneak peak at the destructive force this class brings as well as the jagged stasis crystals that can be erupted from the ground.
Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available on November 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
