Obsidian Entertainment's Fallout: New Vegas spiritual successor The Outer Worlds was one of the hit games of 2019, earning the Role-Playing Game of the Year award from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences among a number of other awards. Nearly a year since The Outer Worlds' release date, it's safe to say that the conversation has largely moved on from the game, with fans focused on what's next from Obsidian instead. However, a recent TikTok trend has put The Outer Worlds right back into the spotlight.

One of the latest TikTok trends is all about "The Fine Print," a song by The Stupendium, made as a tribute to The Outer Worlds. The lyrics of the song reflect The Outer Worlds' anti-capitalist themes. The specific lyrics of the song used in most of the TikTok videos are as follows:

Oh, honestly

Did you not read the colony policy?

That defines you as company property?

That waivers your say in autonomy?

The conglomerate's got you in lock and key

We put the "dollar" back into "idolatry"

TikTok users have used this snippet from "The Fine Print" Outer Worlds fan song as commentary on present-day billionaires and mega-corporations, taking aim at the likes of Amazon, Elon Musk, Twitter, and more.

This is far from the first time that a video game has been involved with a TikTok trend. Another very popular TikTok sound was actually pulled from a PaRappa the Rapper level, and there was once also a time when changing one's profile picture to LEGO Star Wars characters was a popular thing to do on the app. When one considers that most TikTok users grew up with video games and are still playing them today, it's quite likely that gaming will continue to influence TikTok trends moving forward.

Of course, that's assuming that TikTok isn't banned by the United States government. The latest news on that is that Walmart and Microsoft may be teaming up to purchase TikTok, which would prevent the mega-popular social media app from being banned in the US. If some kind of agreement or deal can't be reached, then the TikTok ban will take place around September 15, as per an executive order signed by President Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if The Outer Worlds can capitalize on this newfound attention to get some more fans and help promote the upcoming story DLC. The Outer Worlds' first major expansion, Peril on Gorgon, is set to launch on September 9.

The Outer Worlds is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
