Games firm 2K has backed the NBA teams who refused to take part in their playoff games yesterday in protest of the shooting of Jacob Blake.

In a statement to GameSpot, 2K said that it stood with the NBA and WNBA players who are conducting a wildcat strike. Jacob Blake was shot seven times in the back by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Milwaukee Bucks refused to play their fifth game of the playoff series against Orlando Magic, while two other games between Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets, and Portland Trailer Blazers and LA Lakers have been postponed.

"We at 2K stand against racial injustice and the continued violence against the Black community," the company said.

"NBA 2K has a strong community. We have been heartened by seeing our community use 2K as a place to congregate and honour movements in their own way."

"It is imperative that people have places and ways to share their voice during these times, and it is our aim to keep making 2K a place that our players feel comfortable expressing themselves," the statement continues. "As for the NBA and WNBA, we strongly support the players and the leagues using their platform to demonstrate against the shooting of Jacob Blake."

Blake's death at the hands of police has drawn attention once again to the Black Lives Matter movement against racial injustice. Protests have been taking place across the United States since the death of George Floyd at the end of May.
