Since its release on August 4, Fall Guys has become a bit of a phenomenon on PlayStation 4 and PC, garnering over 1.5 million downloads on PlayStation 4 and breaking over a 100,000 concurrent players on Steam, making it publisher Devolver Digital’s biggest launch for a game ever. But all this hype is causing some serious FOMO for those on other systems, leaving them wondering if they will ever be able to get in on the fun.

Fall Guys is so popular in fact that it is (at the time of this writing) in the top 5 games with the most viewers on Twitch, pushing Minecraft to number 5 and booting Call of Duty and its Warzone battle royale mode to the number 6 spot. That popularity has of course had some unintended side-effects, as the game ended up having some rather large server-troubles over the weekend due to the unexpected number of players.

This indie game that wasn’t on everyone’s radar a month ago certainly is now. The fact that Fall Guys was given out as part of August’s PS Plus free games lineup has many thinking that there might be some sort of console exclusivity, but Xbox and Switch owners jealous of PlayStation shouldn’t worry too much. On the official Fall Guys support page of developer Mediatonic’s website, the developer answers those hoping for word of an Xbox or Switch release:

"To start with, Fall Guys will only be available on PS4 and Steam. We'd love to bring the game to other platforms further down the line. Please let us know on Twitter and Discord which platforms you'd like us to release on next - we'd love to see how much demand there is!"

This sounds like Fall Guys might be only a timed-console-exclusive for PlayStation due to whatever deal was struck to make Fall Guys free for PS Plus users. Regardless of what people may feel about exclusivity deals, fans of Fall Guys should recognize the massive boost in popularity and players giving out a game free to almost everyone on PlayStation gives. After all, that was part of how Rocket League reached 5 million downloads in a little under a month in 2015. Without that initial surge of players, Rocket League may not still be going as strong as it is today.

Hopefully Fall Guys can achieve that same level of success and longevity going forward. Afterall, the folks at Mediatonic did reveal that to be their plan on a recent Reddit AMAFall Guys is a special kind of game that only comes around once every few years, especially when it brings something so fresh to a genre that is beginning to become a bit homogenous.
