It’s a rare thing when a new update for a game as big as Fortnite only happens to sport one noteworthy glitch, so it shouldn’t be all that shocking that this week’s Joy Ride update offers more than just the glitch that makes Fortnite’s cars fly. What’s especially noteworthy about this new one, though, is that it lets players effectively break the game by letting them carry as much gear as they want.

Anyone who’s played Fortnite for even a little bit understands the struggle of inventory management. Since the game only gives players five slots to work with, players often have to ditch some of Fortnite's most powerful weapons and healing items in order to better adjust their loadout for the changing situation. It’s a frustration that they can get around now through the use of a newly discovered “unlimited inventory” exploit, and all they need to pull it off is a vehicle and a gas can.

Multiple YouTubers have shown this glitch off in the last few days, including prominent Fortnite glitch-hunter Glitch King. From what they show, the process is fairly simple. First, players will need to find a gas can and either a Choppa or a boat (which have been put back into Fortnite after being temporarily disabled due to glitches), then they’ll need to park the vehicle next to the desired loot and switch seats.

As long as they’re holding the gas can, they’ll be able to pick up as much loot as they want from there. These won’t actually appear in the inventory, but they’ll still be there. The way this Fortnite glitch seems to work, all extra loot is basically tucked underneath the items that were in the inventory slots before, so all players have to do to access the new ones is simply drop the original items.

As intriguing as the idea of an unlimited inventory in Fortnite is, this method hardly seems like it’ll be all that practical most of the time. Obviously, there’s the risk of being attacked by others while trying to grab items while holding a gas can, but because the glitched items require tossing out other items to access them, players may also have to waste time they often don’t have digging through their stuffed inventory. Granted, this glitch still breaks the game at any rate, but players probably won’t find success with it outside of rarer occasions.

Given the nature of this glitch, it’s likely that Epic Games will be patching it out in the near future, so players don’t have long to try it out and see how effective it is for themselves.

Fortnite is free-to-play on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.
