Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of the biggest Nintendo Switch titles of the year and it continues to deliver to fans with new content, most recently with the second summer update that has added the Dream Suite feature from Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

Players continue to perfect their island, creating their own custom DIY designs, paths, clothing, and of course, collecting their favorite villagers. There is such a wide variety of villagers available that players are spoilt for choice. One of the many kinds of animals available is the wolves, of which there are 13 across the entire series, but not all are currently available in New Horizons. Check them all out below.

13 Dobie

Dobie appeared in the early Japanese-only Animal Forest titles, before making his way to the west with the release of the original Animal Crossing for GameCube. However, he didn't make another appearance until the Welcome Amiibo update for New Leaf and has since returned for New Horizons too.

Dobie is now a cranky villager, though in earlier titles he was categorized as a lazy villager. His wrinkled face and closed eyes give him the appearance of an old man, making the cranky personality type more fitting for him as cranky villagers often reminisce about their youth and are unfamiliar with technology.

12 Tarou

Tarou has only ever made an appearance in the Japanese exclusive Animal Crossing e+, so westerners have never seen this wolf villager in action. He is the only jock wolf in the entire series, meaning that he loves fitness and talking about exercise.

As such, his home is filled with exercise equipment such as weights and punching bags. His house was decorated largely the same as Gaston's home, the cranky rabbit villager.

11 Lobo

Like many of the male wolves, Lobo is of the cranky personality type and he has also been lucky enough to have appeared in every Animal Crossing title to date. His name is Spanish for "wolf", while his catchphrase of "ah-rooooo" references the sound of a wolf howling.

His house is styled like a wood cabin with log furniture and stone walls. As a cranky villager, he might struggle to get along with other villagers with more upbeat personalities, such as the peppy type.

10 Vivian

Vivian debuted as an Animal Forest e+ exclusive villager in Japan, before being absent from the series for a while until her reintroduction as part of the Welcome Amiibo update for New Leaf. She is a snooty personality type, and her coloring suggests that she is meant to resemble the German Shepherd or Malinois dog breeds.

In New Horizons, her default outfit is the elegant Peacoat and Skirt combo and her house is lovingly decorated in a mature, but modern style, with plenty of wicker furniture.

9 Freya

Freya has appeared in every tile apart from Wild World and was the only female wolf in the series until Vivian was added in Animal Forest e+. Her name and catchphrase of "uff da" are both of Norwegian descent, with the catchphrase being a common exclamation that means either "oh no" or "oh my".

Freya is a snooty type villager, which means she can seem a little rude at times, but she is still a lovely character. She has a fashion hobby and enjoys talking to the player about clothing and styles.

8 Skye

Skye first debuted in New Leaf and she is the only normal personality type wolf to date. Her name refers to her blue coloring with cloud-shaped detailing. Her house is bright and airy, colored with blue wallpaper, and featuring pale wood furniture.

Skye's house also features a lily record player that plays her favorite song - Forest Life, as well as a piano that is an indication of her music hobby. As a normal villager, Skye is very friendly and easygoing, making her super easy to befriend and attain her special photo gift.

7 Audie

Audie was one of the new villagers that debuted in New Horizons and she is the only peppy wolf to date. Being of the peppy personality, Audie is often in a good mood and makes friends very easily.

Fans believe that Audie was named after a long-time fan of the same name who shot to internet fame as the Animal Crossing playing granny. Her orange coloring and catchphrase of "foxtrot" also make fans believe that she is supposed to resemble a fox.

6 Kyle

Kyle was first introduced in New Leaf and quickly became a fan-favorite because of punky, delinquent style, evident from his rockstar style home and default clothing of a pleather vest. Unsurprisingly, with all the instruments in his house, he has an interest in music and his favorite song is K.K. Metal.

Because of his black and tan markings with dots on his fur, Kyle appears to look like an African wild dog. As a smug personality type, Kyle is very polite and kind, but can often talk a lot about himself and he has an inflated sense of ego.

5 Whitney

Whitney first appeared in Wild World and has appeared in every title since. She is arguably one of the most recognizable wolves as she appeared in the Dōbutsu no Mori movie, which was based on Wild World. Whitney is a snooty villager with a fashion hobby, so she loves to talk to players about their outfits, make-up, and discussing different styles.

Unsurprisingly, her home is also rather stylish and features a large rose bed in the center. Whitney's favorite K.K. Slider song is K.K. Soul.

4 Chief

Chief has appeared in every single Animal Crossing title to date and his orange and white coloring has led fans to believe that he is more like a fox, despite his wolf category. Chief is a cranky personality villager and this is evident from his grumpy-sounding catchphrase of "harrumph".

In New Horizons, Chief seemed to get a glow-up, going from his usual red bar tee to a new fancier looking shirt and sweater combo, but his home's decor is very different, with graffiti and cardboard furniture.

3 Wolfgang

Wolfgang is a cranky wolf villager that has appeared in every Animal Crossing title to date. He is believed to be named after the famous breakfast chef Wolfgang Puck as his picture quote in Wild World stated "I could eat you for breakfast, short stack".

He wears an aviator jacket as his default outfit and his catchphrase of "snarrrl" seems to relate to his cranky nature while referencing wolf sounds. Wolfgang features on the cover of K.K. Adventure and Animal City.

2 Fang

Fang is a cranky wolf villager that has appeared in every title in the series other than Wild World. He is often considered to be a fan favorite in the Animal Crossing fandom and players especially love his deep voice, a characteristic normal for cranky villagers.

Both his name and catchphrase of "cha-chomp" reference his sharp teeth and biting. Fang has a lovely, elegant home and also has an interest in education, which means you'll often find him reading somewhere.

Wolf Link, abbreviated to W. Link in the game, was added to New Leaf as part of the Welcome Amiibo update. He is based on the appearance of Wolf Link from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and can be invited to the campsite by scanning a Link, Princess Zelda, or Wolf Link amiibo.

Wolf Link is a smug personality type, but despite the amiibo functionality of New Horizons, he has not returned for the latest installment. Fans are hoping that Nintendo will add him and the other special amiibo unlocked characters in the future.
