Get anything you need to have done in Final Fantasy XIV done before August 10th. Anything you want done before the patch, at least, because that’s when patch 5.3 comes roaring on to the game’s servers with a 24-hour long maintenance window. Yes, it starts at 6:00 a.m. EDT on August 10th and ends at 6:00 a.m. EDT on August 11th, meaning you’ll have to muddle through a day without any chance to log in and run around at all.

Obviously, with the sheer volume of content arriving in the patch, we’re sure everyone will manage just fine. This is also a rather long-delayed patch due to pandemic-induced delays, if you had missed that; according to producer and director Naoki Yoshida the original plan was for the patch to launch in mid-June, but the difficulty of adjusting to work from home has resulted in a lengthy delay until its actual launch of August 11th. But considering the new dungeon, alliance raid, and storyline wrapping up the Shadowbringers arc (among others)… well, we’re sure everyone can bear the waiting.
