Warframe devs held an all-digital TennoCon 5 to announce the upcoming update even though TennoCon 2020 was canceled in-person because of the coronavirus. The update is going to shake up quite a bit about the seven-year-old-game.
Digital Extreme's Warframe has had a lot of rumors flying around about what could be announced at TennoCon 5 this year, including some hopes that Warframe would come to mobile. However, Digital Extremes had a lot more in mind than just a new platform. During TennoCon 5, it announced a massive update to the game that includes some never-before-seen changes.
According to the press release, the newest expansion, called Heart of Deimos, will launch on August 25th, 2020 and will be a "completely new era" for Warframe. TennoCon 5 began to outline all the changes that players can look forward to, including some open-world locations linked by procedurally generated undergrounds. This open world takes place on a "living moon" where players will battle against an entire planet that is interconnected and alive.
This new content will include three new open worlds to explore that look to be much bigger than the last New War story expansion.
Those fans that tuned into TennoCon in-game got more than a free Hydroid Prime; they also got some first looks at the new customization system, a glance at the pilotable mechs called Necramechs that will make for "heavy powered combat," and meet the player-designed Xaku, a gender-neutral character that holds the power of the Void. All these will be included in the August 25th update as well as the Infested moon storylines.
The press release also goes into a lot of details about its upcoming charity event. A portion of the proceeds from TennoCon is going to be given to Autism Ontario London and Alzheimer Society London and Middlesex. They have set up a donation Tiltify, but players can also buy from Baro Ki'Teer's Relay for some deals on in-game loot to help with the cause until August 3rd. Players can also look forward to seeing all these changes adopted for the PS5 and Xbox Series X ports of Warframe as well.
Warframe fans can now download the demo to get a taste of what the new content will look like come August 25th, 2020.
Warframe is available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and has been announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
