Epic Games' Fortnite has achieved a popularity that few games can rival. It's absolutely everywhere, played and streamed by millions of players of all ages, and it's so enmeshed in its own corner of gaming culture at this point that Epic Games had to explain why Fortnite wasn't available on Stadia.

The developers of Fortnite have kept up with this popularity by keeping the game fresh however they can. The map has undergone a complete overhaul and continues to change. Performances and events take place in the game, which keeps it from becoming monotonous. Epic has even tapped into popular culture to keep Fortnite relevant with moments like the Star Wars event that took place in-game. It's strange to watch a game develop like this, almost like a television series, but no one can deny it's been effective.

The last major update to Fortnite flooded the entire map, leaving a series of islands for players to jump between. The water level has been dropping slowly, and only now are things back to what passes for normal. Locations like Weeping Woods have risen again, along with new weekly challenges. One point of interest, in particular, has made its way to the surface: an entirely new location. That location is the long-rumored and leaked Atlantis POI, officially called Coral Castle.

Coral Castle ruins

The new location is, as its name suggests, a castle with a lot of coral. Or at least, the remains of a once-great castle. There is a central keep, complete with indoor pool, as well as outer towers and walls. A lot of it can be harvested for brick, which is useful, and there are chests aplenty. At the moment, it can only be reached by air or by water, which makes sense. No word on whether the upcoming Fortnite cars will be able to reach Coral Castle eventually.

The area has several mini-quests for players to take on as well, although many of these are unknown at this time. Players are still exploring the area and uncovering its secrets. Firefights inside the castle walls should be interesting, as they are cramped, narrow spaces. Players will find themselves with either plenty of cover, or none at all, with little in between. It would be a great place to gather for, say, the next Party Royale event, but there's no word on if it will be the official venue.

Coral Castle is fully available for exploration right now. Of course, it's not the only intriguing thing uncovered by the waves. There's also a spaceship to launch, but that's another matter entirely.

Fortnite is available for PC, PS4, iOS, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.
