Crystal Dynamics used the founding members of the MCU's Avengers team to comprise their own in Marvel's Avengers, meaning the team is supposed to be made up of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye. However, Hawkeye hasn't appeared in any of Marvel's Avengers recent promotions, which left fans believing that the hero was just once again needlessly left out of the proceedings.

Crystal Dynamics addressed these concerns today with its second Marvel's Avengers War Table presentation, and fans will likely be happy with its answer: Hawkeye will be the game's first post-launch hero. He may not be available at launch, and it's currently unclear when he will be added, but he hasn't been forgotten, and he'll be obtainable for free once he arrives.

On top of this, Hawkeye will have his very own chain of story missions for players to experience, and they'll be unique from Marvel's Avengers' Reassembled campaign (the main storyline) because they'll be playable in either single-player or co-op. Co-op missions allow fans to play with AI-controlled party members, so every player will have a choice as to how they want to handle Hawkeye's string of missions.

Crystal Dynamics revealed that Hawkeye's story missions would take place after the events of Marvel's Avengers' A-Day prologue, so the mission could explore what Hawkeye was doing during the five years between A-Day and Reassembled. Otherwise, they'll explore what happens after the Reassembled campaign. Then again, it is also possible for Crystal Dynamics to take both routes if it wants.

What is clear is that both Hawkeye and his missions will be based on the "My Life as a Weapon" Marvel comics run that was created by Matt Fraction and David Aja. Hawkeye's Marvel's Avengers' look specifically take inspiration from the Hawkeye #1 Variant Edition by Adi Granov. The trailer also had some barks at the end of it that imply Hawkeye's dog Lucky will be arriving with him.

Crystal Dynamics looks to have four other characters planned beyond Hawkeye. After Hawkeye's trailer and Marvel's Avengers' beta details, Crystal described the "ever-present" Avengers Initiative, which will feature all of the content players experience after beating the main campaign.

During Crystal's description, four more character logo's appeared. The studio didn't give any indication of who these characters could be, however, and with Hawkeye out of the way, and Kamala Khan a member, it could be anyone at this point.

Marvel's Avengers releases on September 4 for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, and later for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
