Since her release on the live servers back in November of 2017, Overwatch players have often debated on what changes should be made to Moira. While the support character may not have received the same kind of overhaul the likes of Mercy and Symmetra have, it can be said that Moira has certainly received her fair share of crazy Overwatch buffs and nerfs. However, with the game's latest patch for Experimental Mode, Moira has received a buff that many players are calling overkill.

Jeff Kaplan, the Game Director for Overwatch, announced the new Experimental Mode back in February. The idea for this mode is to allow the developers to implement new concepts for characters and modes while directly receiving player feedback. The inaugural experiment was called 'Triple Damage' and was set so that the role queue was locked with three damage characters, two supports, and only one tank.

For Moira, this experiment is far bigger. In the latest patch notes for Experimental Mode, Moira has received a buff to her Fade ability where she phases out herself and all allies within 6 meters for 1 second after exiting her Fade. All characters affected by this phase effect are immune from all damage and effects during that time, essentially allowing her to save her entire team from powerful Ultimates like Self-Destruct and Graviton Surge.

While this buff may only be restricted to Experimental Mode for now, many players are unhappy and are hoping it doesn't somehow make its way to the regular game modes. With this change, Moria can essentially end a hard-earned ultimate ability with a standard ability that is available to use again every 6 seconds. Seasoned players have also commented saying that she would be able to end team fights, thus locking her as the best pick for support in most team compositions.

Recently, Toronto Defiant DPS player Lane "Surefour" Roberts posted his thoughts and issues with supports in the current Overwatch meta. In a tweet using Twitlonger, he discussed how he felt that with the rise of more support characters with area-of-effect healing like Moira, the meta has shifted in a way that undercuts the value of damage dealing characters like Widowmaker and McCree. While many players would agree with the sentiment that some kind of change needs to be made overall with support characters, it seems that they agree even more that a buff like this is not the right direction.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
