It appears that Blizzard has snuck a buff for Mercy in the latest Overwatch PTR. The July 15th update is one that many fans hope will revive one of the original heroes and bring some more balance to an ever-changing meta.

Recently Blizzard provided one of its constant updates for Overwatch, mainly attending to bugs and amending minor adjustments to the popular game. Players found a new change to Mercy that seemingly adjusts her Valkyrie suit and the way she maneuvers around the map.

Mercy has received many nerfs in recent years, taking her from one of the premiere healers when Overwatch was initially released, to a last resort from heroes with more range. Especially considering how certain metas developed, Mercy players would often find themselves vulnerable if any opponent focused in their direction. Changes to Mercy's Valkyrie suit have progressively hindered her ability to move from place to place with speed or range, but it seems that may soon be corrected.

This change looks to rectify changes made back in January 2018 when her Valkyrie speed was reduced by 50%. Prior to this nerf in 2018, Mercy was quite popular. Granted, the range of healers available then were not as comprehensive as they are now, but the nerfs certainly did not help with her selection.

The support heroes have all received buffs and nerfs in their time, but none more so than Mercy. Now that the Support cast is more diverse, Mercy requires more help to stand out from the unique heroes in the crowd. This change to help her bounce around the map with ease aims to do that.

Selecting Mercy has always been one that draws criticism from players. For an FPS game, her heavily supportive role does force her into a backseat role in a pure damage perspective, but her role as a healer still remains prime among support characters. This ability is not yet confirmed, and may even just be an accident as Mercy was not even actually written into the notes.

Although there are critics of Mercy's capabilities in Overwatch, there is no doubt that her fans will greatly appreciate this hopeful boon to her gameplay. Changes have been coming in with regular consistency despite the announcement of Overwatch 2, and until then fans of the original will be glad to know one of the original heroes will be trying to make a comeback in a big way.

Overwatch is available on PS4, Xbox One, PC and the Nintendo Switch.
