Square Enix and Google will collaborate on releasing Outriders, the upcoming sci-fi RPG shooter from People Can Fly, on Stadia at an unspecified point next year. The release will follow Outriders' debut on PC and both current and next-gen platforms, and the news came alongside a new trailer, titled "Journey Into The Unknown."

Following up on People Can Fly's work on the Gears of War series and Bulletstorm, Outriders is a new take on the tried-and-true looter-shooter that appears to be setting itself apart with a rougher, more serious tone compared to the genre's biggest games like Destiny and Borderlands. Players can choose between one of four customizable classes with unique sets of powers, and fight against other empowered humans and creatures to survive on the planet Enoch in the far future.

As a new game joining a somewhat crowded space in the industry and a launch title for the PS5 and Xbox Series X, People Can Fly's game has a lot to prove when it arrives later this year, but Outriders has the potential to be great, coming from a well-established developer and being designed as a full game at launch without day-one DLC, microtransactions or games-as-a-service plans.

The game's arrival on Stadia should be a boon to Google's game streaming service, which has been courting support from developers and publishers but still hasn't earned much love from players. Square Enix isn't the only publisher bringing big games to the service in the future, as Google also announced several new exclusive titles and ports during today's Stadia Connect presentation.

People Can Fly has ramped up promotional efforts for Outriders in recent months with a set of live streams, called Outriders Broadcasts, on its Twitch and YouTube channels. Game Rant interviewed the team about the next Outriders Broadcast earlier in the month, and fans can expect more gameplay and information on the game's Devastator class when the studio goes live again in August. With Outriders promising anywhere from 25 to 30 hours of gameplay, players will just have to bide their time until they can get their hands on the game.

Outriders will release in Q4 2020 for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X, and in 2021 on Stadia.
