In a Q&A session with GameStop on July 13, the developers behind upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive Ghost of Tsushima stated that there are "several" Easter eggs hidden within the game that reference their past titles.

Sucker Punch Studios detailed that several of its games have their own Easter eggs, with one of the notable titles being the PlayStation 2 classic stealth platforming series, Sly Cooper. Sucker Punch failed to elaborate on the Easter eggs, however, simply stating that if big fans of the series "know what to look for," then they shouldn't have an issue spotting them in Ghost of Tsushima.

Sly Cooper and the Thievious Raccoonus was released for the PlayStation 2 on September 23, 2002 to critical and commercial success, getting two sequels on the console. The series got a fourth and final installment on the PlayStation 3, entitled Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. Easter eggs are nothing new to Sucker Punch's IPs, as the fourth Sly installment notably also had a few Easter eggs itself, with the most interesting one being the ability to replace Sly's cane with Cole's amp from the Infamous franchise.

Thieves in Time was handed off to Sanzaru Games (Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Sonic Boom) and was the first and only title to not be developed by Sucker Punch itself. The title received mixed reviews and poor sales, and unfortunately never received a sequel. A 3D animated Sly Cooper film adaptation was announced back in 2014, but was later scrapped the following year in favor of a 2D-hand drawn television series. The series was given an October 2019 release date, but all news has since died down and its status is now unknown. 2020 marks the seventh year without a new Sly Cooper game.

Perhaps the Ghost of Tsushima Easter eggs are a sign that Sucker Punch still has some interest in returning to the classic series. This wouldn't be the first time that Easter eggs have been a sign of bigger things.

Ghost of Tsushima releases later this month as an exclusive for the PlayStation 4. It's likely to be one of the last exclusives for the console before the PlayStation 5 releases at the end of the year. The PlayStation 5 was just recently revealed to the public, along with a slew of exciting new titles.

Ghost of Tsushima launches exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on July 17, 2020.
