Limited Run Games has brought many digital-only games, as well as older games, new physical releases. Earlier today developer WayForward announced Limited Run Games is helping it bring the 2002 Game Boy Color title Shantae back with a physical reproduction of the cartridge to coincide its release on Switch, and it seems it'll also be working on another indie title called Demon Turf.

Demon Turf is a 3D platformer designed using 2D characters in an interesting artistic blend that promises a humorous world of demons, a physics-based combat system where the main character Beebz can push, pull, or spin enemies around, and a unique metroidvania-type progression with changing areas. It was announced by Fabraz, developers of 2D platformer Slime-san, as part of IGN's Summer of Gaming last month.

The video announcing its limited-run physical release uploaded to YouTube today features a brief skit where Beebz calls the game "pretty dope" before her kappa friend Midgi says it sucks that there is not have a physical release. Clearly it does now for Switch, and based on the gameplay footage that follows it seems to be worth considering. However, no version of the game has a release date yet.

While the developers advertise the game as an evolution of Slime-san, it also appears to take visual influence from games like Gears for Breakfast's A Hat in Time. That game, as well as titles like Yooka-Laylee, have been bringing GameCube-style 3D platformers back into prominence, and Demon Turf may help do the same.

Demon Turf will be available on PC, Switch, and Xbox One sometime in 2020 or 2021.
