World of Warcraft players may be finding themselves in a bit of a lull as the Battle for Azeroth era begins to come to a close. Although the latest expansion started off with a bang, the endgame grind of unlocking additional allied races and leveling up the Legendary Cloak has been stretching out for quite a while. That isn't uncommon for the end of an expansion era though and the next age of WoW begins with Shadowlands later this year (hopefully).

After a handful of delays, Blizzard is finally ready to host its next developer update to provide a closer look at what is coming when Shadowlands arrives. The new expansion content has been in alpha testing for quite a while and a lot of tweaks are being made that players who aren't worried about spoilers can follow along with on the forums. Today's developer update will likely cover a lot of those changes, but hopefully there will be some new content and teasers dropped, as well. It also seems like a perfect time to announce a release date for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands if Blizzard is ready to commit to one...

After a long wait, the rescheduled Shadowlands Developer Update is finally just a few hours away. The livestream event is scheduled to take place today, July 8, at 9am PT. The team at Blizzard has been pretty secretive about what might be shared during the event, but it doesn't seem too crazy to hold out hope for a shorter teaser trailer. Don't expect anything as crazy as the first Sylvanas versus Lich King cinematic, but some sort of trailer, likely featuring gameplay, seems very realistic. As usual, the developer update will feature Executive Producer John Hight and Game Director Ion Hazzikostas in a sit down conversation style dialogue about the game.

Fans who are interested can follow along with the presentation on Twitch, YouTube, or stay right here and watch this spot when the stream begins...

The promise of a level squish in Shadowlands has a lot of players very excited to jump back into the MMO and see how different things feel. There's definitely going to be some very challenging balance issues to ensure that level 60s feel as powerful as level 120 or 125s, so Blizzard has its work cut out for the coming months. As the story shifts away from the controversial Horde versus Alliance conflict that caused a lot of drama during the BfA era, it will be interesting to see how fans react to the Shadowlands-focused narrative and if it helps draw in some lapsed players. Either way, we'll be keeping a close eye on the development.

Be sure to check back in the coming weeks as more details about Shadowlands emerge. Until then, For the Horde!

World of Warcraft is available now for PC. At this point, World of Warcraft Shadowlands does not have a confirmed release date.
