With the game amassing a considerable cult-following upon release, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning was received with open arms when it was announced last month. The long-awaited remaster promised fans that it would bring back the beloved title with significantly enhanced visuals and all the original DLC, with the game set to debut on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Unfortunately, while the title was originally set to hit stores on August 18, THQ Nordic has officially announced that players will have to wait a few more weeks than originally intended before they can get their hands on the remaster. Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning will now officially be available on September 8, a mere thre weeks after its intended launch.

That wasn't the only news about Kingdoms of Amalur announced by THQ Nordic, however, with the team also revealing a crazy announcement for the eight-year-old game. Unveiled in a tweet, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning will be receiving a brand new story expansion in 2021 titled "Fatesworn." To put that into perspective, Kingdoms of Amalur originally launched on the Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2012 and will receive its newest piece of content nine years later in 2021. It goes without saying that its a very strong message from THQ Nordic, who has spent its time listening to the requests of players and authentically looking for ways to resurrect some of gaming's most beloved cult-classics.

As for what Fatesworn will entail, it seems THQ Nordic is mostly staying quiet on what to expect from the DLC. That being said there is a tagline for the mysterious expansion, reading: "What does the future hold for the Fateless One?" It seems to hint that the additional content will likely take place after the main story of the original title. Regardless, it's great to see an old, often underlooked game like Kingdoms of Amalur make its grand return with post-launch support. It seems many are wondering when official gameplay will release and what changes the team behind the reboot have made, so it seems likely more will be revealed about the remaster in due course.

Outside of Kingdoms of Amalur, THQ Nordic has been establishing itself as one of the most interesting publishers in the industry recently with a handful of fan-pleasing titles. SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated may have been deeply criticized in reviews but made waves on Steam, while the Destroy All Humans! remake has already received wide acclaim from impressed onlookers. Here's to hoping that Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning can find the same reception.
