Players love getting involved in a game's story, in Cyberpunk 2077's case, bounty hunting, and tackling criminal activity across a large open-world. Yet no matter how engaging the story may be, people just cannot resist the joy of cute animals, which is why discovering that the main character V can pet cats has been so well-received.

The fluffy discovery was made by Miranda Sanchez of IGN, who was wandering the streets of Night City in a four hour gameplay demo of the much anticipated game. After being dropped into a world littered with items, Miranda wasted no time in picking up and interacting with as much as she could, knowing that the final game features both the ability to sell junk, and to use it for crafting.

Cats were just one of the many non-player characters and items scattered around Cyberpunk 2077's open-world, with objects V can pick up ranging from weapons, clothes, and crafting materials, to burritos, handcuffs, and even syringes. Shops and "Drop Points" provide regular places for players to unload their over-full pockets, which is useful as the amount V can carry is limited, although the ability to upgrade it is expected. The other main collectible identified so far are "Shards," which are devices like books which carry a wide range of information, including details of the history of Night City.

Dog lovers will have to wait in hope though, as yet no canine friends have been found in Dark City, despite several other recent games including doggy pats, including: The Last of Us Part II, The Division 2 (in the recent "Warlords of New York" expansion, ) and Ghost of Tsushima. This is partly down to a twitter account "Can You Pet The Dog," which brought the lack of interaction with man's best friend to people's attention (it currently has over 400k followers) and spawned a sister account, "Can I Pet The Cat," who will no doubt be very happy with Cyberpunk 2077.

Part of the fun of exploring a new game-world is understanding the level of detail and interactivity available, and finding out just how much the game will let players do. Indeed, finding out that Link can bond with the dogs in Zelda: Breath of the Wild, or that the hat wearing Shiba Inu in Super Mario Odyssey will "adopt" Mario if certain conditions are met, just adds to the immersion and engagement that players feel.

While something as simple as interacting with an animal character within a game may not be of great importance by itself, it does suggest the level of care and detail going into the game is considerable. Which is a good sign for everyone looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077, not just the animal lovers.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on November 19, with PS5, Stadia, and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
