A new video shared online yesterday gave fans excited for Cyberpunk 2077 a deep dive look into how much the game has changed since it was shown in 2018.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been in development for about four years now, and a lot has changed in the game between what is being shared now vs the deep dive E3 demo they released in 2018. Developer CD Projekt Red is known for being a team of perfectionists, and so the multiple delays the game has received have come as no surprise. So naturally, a lot has changed in Cyberpunk 2077 over the years.

A video posted to YouTube yesterday by EdgeRunner (A.K.A. ColdFIre Games) showcases just how much of a team of perfectionists CD Projekt Red is. When comparing the 2018 E3 demo footage to the 2020 footage, the most obvious change is how much the lighting has improved. The comparison shows not just an increase in light sources, like making the traffic cone in the first comparison shot an emissive object, but improvements to the engine as a whole. Characters and objects look far more realistically lit than before. Dexter DeShawn’s car now has a detailed view of the world through the window with natural lighting pouring in and adding a great degree of realism to Dexter’s look that was just not there before

Some characters have also been redesigned, like the Night City PD officer shown in the first comparison shot, who is now much more detailed, better lit, and is sporting some cool aviators. Characters that had blurry indistinguishable tattoos now have very detailed ones. Environments also look more detailed. Shelves that were filled with repeat objects now are full of variety. That is not all that will be detailed of course, but still these changes are impressive.

Suffice to say the time CD Projekt Red has spent on further fleshing out the world of Night City has been time well spent. The developer is known for building incredibly rich worlds, thanks to its work on the Witcher series, and this world looks to be even richer.

Cyberpunk 2077 is only a few months away, as its delay to November 19 will hopefully be its final one. Until then, people who are excited for the game can read up on what was revealed at the recent Night City Wire event, including the Braindance gameplay that allows players to experience the game from NPC’s perspectives.

Cyberpunk 2077 releases November 19 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with Stadia, PS5, and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
