Announced back in April, fans found out that Dying Light will be getting a fun new slice of additional content through the Hellraid add on. For those who don't know, Hellraid was originally a first-person fantasy hack and slash from the minds behind Dying Light that eventually got canceled, so the DLC will allegedly look to cash in on some of the ideas for the game that the developers never got to show off.
It seems fans now know when exactly they'll be getting the exciting piece of additional content too, with a new trailer from Techland revealing a firm release date for the DLC as well as showcasing a bit more of what players can expect when it's available. The DLC will be coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on July 23, meaning players have just under a month before they get their hands on it.
The trailer itself seemingly picks up from where the DLC's announcement left off, with the demonic Hellraid arcade machine transporting the player to another dimension once they insert a coin. Here we see several gothic environments, including dilapidated castle corridors, eerily empty dining halls, and what looks to be a dungeon flooded with fiery hot lava. Shifting into a first-person perspective, viewers see the player wielding a mace as they walk through the foreboding hallways of Hellraid's castle.
Interestingly, the footage looks incredibly similar to the gameplay shown of the original Hellraid prior to its cancellation, especially when the trailer begins to show off some of the enemies players can expect to face. While turning a corner, the protagonist comes face to face with a horde of sword-wielding, red-eyed skeletons, with the trailer showing how players will have to time perfect dodges to be able to fight this otherworldly foe. It seems a lot of the more brutal moves from Dying Light will come in handy when facing these enemies as well, with the footage highlighting the player landing savage dropkicks, throwing knives, and even landing a crunchy slash attack with the mace.
The trailer ends with the player coming face to face several fire-throwing enemies, showing that there will be some diversity in the monsters occupying the game's creepy castle. With Hellraid standing as one of the more tragic video game cancellations of recent years, it's great to see the game get some form of new life through the Dying Light franchise. Hopefully, it'll make for a solid piece of additional content when it launches next month.
