Along with tons of new mythic weapons for Season 3Fortnite has also introduced some new items. This includes the Firefly Jar which was added with the hotfix on June 23rd. Since this item is currently in an "evaluation period," the Jar might not be around forever, so players should learn to use it now.

The Firefly Jar

Along with the map changes in Season 3 of Fortnite, the Firefly Jar is a brand new addition for this season. Like most objects in Fortnite, is all about dealing some damage. Players can lob jars filled with Fireflies at other players, dealing fire damage to their opponents, dealing 40 damage to whatever it hits and setting fire to everything around the player. Players can hold stacks of three in an inventory slot. These grenades can't be found lying around the map, however.

How to Get the Jars

Lucky for players, everyone will start off with some empty jars in their inventories for catching fireflies. So all they have to do in order to get themselves a Firefly Jar is to fill it up with glowing bugs. Now that the Season 3 map is flooded, players should be able to find these bugs located all over the coastal areas, near water. They don't appear everywhere there is water, but it's a great place to start looking if players want to try these grenades out for themselves.

Once players come across the bugs, they can press the interact button to catch a few. Now their grenade is locked and loaded and ready to light someone on fire. Not even the new Aquaman skin can save them.

Evaluation Period for New Items

But what is up with the eval period for items? In a blog post on the 16th of June, 2020, Epic released a statement that as new items are added throughout Season 3, there will be a "two-week evaluation period where new items are kept out of Arena and tournaments." This is to ensure that the items don't break competitive play and that they actually "add value" to the competitive scene. Items that don't make the cut will most likely be tweaked or scrapped completely. This will hopefully help with the Fortnite items having to be quickly disabled in game when there are problems found.

Fortnite is available for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
