One of the early examples of a successful MOBA, SMITE continues to grow and change with time. With SMITE's recent adition to the Epic Games Store, it is clear the game shows no signs of slowing down.

One of the reasons for SMITE's continued growth is the vast material it has to draw on for characters. The game's simple but genius premise of gods and mythicla characters fighting allows for limitless expansion. As of late however, figures of less than divine status have been added to the game more regularly. This includes the likes of King Arthur and Merlin on the battlefield of the gods.

This probably doesn't mean that Hi-Rez is running out of gods to add to the game. The most recent addition to SMITE is Cthulhu, a god born from a single piece of 1920s fiction who is no less powerful than Zeus. The practice of incorporating more recent source material into the game is continuing with new content coming to SMITE directly from the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender. In July of 2020, the new battle pass for SMITE will include access to skins of Aang, Zuko, and Korra, as well as additional prestige skins for each.

While these characters, especially Aang and Korra, could likely stand on par with SMITE's combatants, these are only skins. The Aang skin is for Merlin, the Zuko skin is for Susano'o, and the Korra skin is for Skadi. These are more on theme than previous skins, like Sylvanus' Bob Ross skin, and have unique animations to match. Whether there are unique voice lines is not known at this time.

There's a good chance these skins will bring new players to the gods in question thanks to the shows' followings. This is especially true of The Last Airbender, considered to be one of the greatest shows made in recent years. People are still creating tributes to the show in many forms, official and unofficial. Unsurprisingly, one of those tributes is the recreation of iconic Avatar scenes in Animal Crossing, both through island and costume customization.

As cool as these skins are, it's a bit disappointing that skins is all they are. There are surpsrisingly few options for players looking to play around in the Last Airbender universe. Said universe is filled with fantastic stories and battles, prime material for a dedicated video game. Fan recreations of Last Airbender fight scenes are incredible, no doubt, but they aren't quite the same as controlling the fighters themselves. Hopefully its release on Netflix will sees a renewed interest in creating a Last Airbender video game.

SMITE is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
