Lord of the Rings Online devs discuss Rohan housing, new hooks, and future neighborhoods

So who wants to talk Lord of the Rings Online housing? Yao at French fansite D&Co du Milieu recently landed a fun new interview with Standing Stone Games all about the Rohan-themed housing neighborhoods due for the game later this year.

“The neighborhoods are meant to evoke two quintessential Rohan experiences: living on the grassy plains and farmlands, and living in the rugged and wooded foothills of Rohan,” SSG Lead World Builder Scenario says. “We also want them to feel like they are a part of the world, instead of some pocket off to the side, which is how most of our other housing was implemented.”

The idea is that the homes will be a pair of smaller homesteads “instead of one singular massive homestead,” with new hitching posts, new hook types, cosmetic pet hooks, kinship visitation tools, unique storage, and a whole new reputation system. The hook system is not going away, clearly, though the studio is aiming for more “guided flexibility.”

While the devs won’t confirm more housing is coming beyond this batch – “We’re probably a ways of from introducing a new neighborhood,” Scenario says – SSG does apparently have a whole pile of ‘hood ideas and will “likely” focus on Elf, Dwarf, or Hobbit homes next.
