Fortnite's doomsday event finally happened, and it has sunk the battle royale map underwater. In an attempt to get rid of the storm, Midas has made a different problem, as now the storm has taken the form of a giant wall of water which is closing in on the island.

For those unaware, Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 has had several extensions resulting in season 3 being delayed quite a few times. With the game building up to a cataclysmic event of some sort, many were thrilled to finally get to see what the result of Midas' plan would be.

Now fans know, and they can start experiencing the fallout of this event immediately, assuming they can connect to the server and wait out the long queue times. Since the event was a one time deal, those that missed it may want to check out the video below, which captures it in its entirety.

Overall it is a wild ride from start to finish. The countdown hits zero and at first, it seems as though nothing is happening, but then pylons from The Device begin to rise out of Fortnite's underwater vaults, in line with the predictions that many had made before hand. Finally, after all five pylons have risen, the main building of The Agency itself starts to pulse with energy before exploding as a larger pylon rises from the rubble. Streams of energy connect the central rod to the surrounding pylons and gravity seems to falter, as players start floating in the sky.

Though it seems like The Device is working at first, as it actually begins to push back the Storm, things start to get weird once it begins to malfunction. The player is then transported into a first-person cutscene in an office where they overhear some conversations happening on the other side. When they return to the Agency, the Storm is raging in protest before The Device casts it off for good. The pylons begin to return underground only for a large bolt of lightning to strike the central rod. Another cutscene plays out in the office, no doubt giving fuel to theorists and lore lovers.

Finally, the player is brought back again, this time to a towering wall of water seemingly waiting to collapse. Debris, trees, and even a shark or two can be seen floating in its depths until one final cutscene plays, and players are dropped back into the sunken map on the battle bus.

Fortnite is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
